Heroes, superheroes and the banhammer

Recommended Posts

I have a concern about this.

History has shown that there hasn't been much consistency as to how people have earned their Hero tag.

That's not to say those who have them haven't deserved them.

However, there are many long standing members who've yet to be award the tag who are deserving and have contributed greatly to the site.

It just seems a tad unfair that if they fuck up they'll face the ban hammer but a Hero will get a concession.

It's not to say I'm against the idea, but I just thought it was a concern worth raising.

MrFriendly, if the 'fuck up' is worthy of a ban, then we won't hesitate to carry it out. This is not a lifeline per se, but an alternate form of consequence if the occasion calls for it.

Fair enough, but if a Hero and a regular member are guilty of the same infraction, how are the two dealt with?

Because of this, i wouldnt like Mac Dudes idea to happen, where the tag is taken away after 12 months. Its sentimental to me...i wouldnt like it. I love you Mac dade but i dont like that idea :P

I'm not here to be popular, but you know that :) Under my suggestion you would have a little glowing Atomic O under your avatar in recognition of your contribution. I just wanted a way to recognise new contributors, versus those whose major contribution is a little older...

One gets banned the other a loss of title. Possibly.

It will be quite inconsistent I'm sure. :\

My understanding is that there is a group of actions (Group 1) which are ban-worthy.

There are also a group of actions (Group 2) which are not as bad as those in Group 1, but are not becoming of the Hero/SH tag.

Group
		 | 1 | 2 |
		 -------------------------
Regular |	Ban	| Nothing |
Hero/SH |	Ban	|Bye2Status |

The implication is that Hero/SH are held up to a higher standard than a regular user. And if they choose not to be held up to this standard, by committing Group 2 acts, then they will become a regular user.

Yeah, it's going to be interesting how it plays out. I'm going to be honest, I'm quite surprised at the move- I'd always been under the impression that Heroes and regular atomicans were all equal under the eyes of moderation, but this move sort of indicates it is not. I hope it isn't another move towards elitism, that would be a shame :(

I don't think this is correct. To quote the OP "instead of banning a hero or superhero, we will instead remove that title. ". The removal of status is instead of banning, not instead of nothing.

Robzy, you need to add a 3rd row to your ascii table, to describe the consequences for scary badarse boatrocking heroes.

So to clarify

If a Hero does something bad* they go right back to pleb town with the rest of us.

If a SuperHero does something bad* do they get busted back to pleb town or are they just demoted back to Hero?

*yet to be determined and probably not disclosed

Perhaps they should be given the prefix "Bizarro"? Edited by just_some_guy

Im serious guy not baiting you.

If a Super is so "Super" surely any fall from grace is only viewed through the same lens.

And you can't have the Ex Heros judging themselves against the indiscretions of others.

The deposed are painted into a corner they would feel wronged and that's the kinda thing you feel in that situation.

I am trying to pan out a set of perhaps functional rules as to how this might work.

All I am thinking at the moment is the bad* will be set at fucking ludicrous right now because you can't have them all dropping like flies.

They only get handed out a few a year if that. And if the destroy the economy of special by having to hand them out every second day the whole exercise will do naught but annoy everyone.

Wait, did you just compare Juggs to a vampire?

Hang on. I just saw Twilight. You're saying Juggalo Scrub is an angsty emo with a monobrow?

And if they destroy the economy of special by having to hand them out every second day the whole exercise will do naught but annoy everyone.

But in these difficult times, it may be necessary to run a temporary deficit of special ... for the next 11 years. Edited by just_some_guy

So if I'm a super hero and post porn, my rank will get removed rather than me getting banned?

I think certain users who do nothing but troll, literally, should have theirs removed. Certain users post nothing more than a simple image or 2 words which adds nothing to the thread. That is literally all they post, and they are a hero why?

Because those two words are of the highest possible quality ... chosen VERY carefully and after a great deal of deliberation by these heroic masters of economic communication! Edited by just_some_guy

Because they've been here longer?

Because back in the old days they were different?

Don't put yourself down, dude - I'm sure you're still spry enough when the need arises.

TBH it sounds more like they're hoping that any Heroes they want to somehow tame a little will also care about their Hero tag.

The talk about a higher standard sounds more like they just want Heroes, moreso than other people, to not make the place look as bad as we know it to be - and scare all the new people away. As if internet drama isn't a worthy reason to sign up to a new forum! ; o
