R18+ and you. Are resubmitted watered down games good enough?

  1. 1. Import or buy watered down 15+?

    • I'm happy with a game being resubmitted and buying locally

    • I will import if any changes are made to the original game

With Silent Hill refused classification with possible resubmission next year and Fallout 3 watered down for reclassification to 15+, what action will you take with the games you want to purchase?

Are you happy as long as the game makers bend to the will of our horrible ratings system and water their games down for a local release, or will you import any game that will have any part cut out or changed for an Australian release?

Personally I imported GTA4 due to modification, no matter how small it was, if I want Fallout or Silent Hill I will most likely import them too, with import games being cheaper I feel considerably ripped off to pay more for a local product which has been watered down. What are your thoughts?

Yeah, I'd much rather import then have to suffer a neutered version, no matter how small the neutering. Especially in the case of Silent Hill where, due to the denial, they will most likely submit a edited version after the rest of the world gets theirs.

Up side of importing is usually price, downside is possible delay (ie non brick and mortar store) and not supporting Australian retail.

The fallout 3 thing is a bit of a moot point since every country is getting the same version (Thanks Atkinson you giant fucking douche). On the flipside of that, real world drugs weren't in the previous fallouts so the change will actually make it more faithful

Well, Fallout 3 turned out to be a lot of hoo ha about SFA.

GTA4 was the one that pissed me off personally.

I like the idea of importing to get the original game, but usually I can't be bothered. For games I'm hanging out for I'd rather play them on day one, and I'd also rather have piece of mind with regards to the rising trend of region locked multiplayer.

Surely that knob-end in SA can't be in power forever.

I have to say, I've never really given a shit about games being altered to fit ratings. I have never found it possible to determine if a game is worth playing based on the score provided by the OFLC's content classification system; how a game comes together for me, in terms of how well its story is written and performed, how good or unique the graphics are, how fun it is to play, etc. has rarely, if ever, had any effect on the OFLC rating and vice versa.

Im sick and tired of he argument, which I've been saying for a while now... My opinion, the entire thing is blown out of proportion.

Fallout 3 is the same game world wide anyway, I'll be importing for PRICE reasons, as for the "censorship" by honest opinion is people need to get over it.

And now Im sure I'll be flamed for saying that

I missed that, so Australia's cry about morphine in Fallout has meant they've neutered it for the whole world? Sure it means we're getting the same version as everyone else, but that pisses me off even more that our backwards games market can effect the whole world with our bullshit.

Once again, morphine was never in the original games so the edited version is more faithful than what Bethesda were going to release. If it had changed key game mechanics, well that's different but all they did was change a name. Hardly a OMG TEHY BROEK FALLOUT 3 IT AMZ RUIND! /CRYFASE

+1 The SA Attorney General needs to leave his position he is not welcome.

I swear I must be the only person in the country that thinks the SA Attourney General should be left alone, there are two sides to the argument..

Its not him thats the problem, its the fact that ONE voice means we get no R rating.... its a democracy it should be majority vote

Should be, but it's not... therefore it IS him that's the problem, because it's coming down to that ONE voice... which is HIS.

Either way, what i came to ask is - wouldn't customs pick up banned games if we were to import them?

I wanna grab Silent Hill from play-asia but don't want to risk it getting picked up by customs and wasting my money.

Refused classifications isn't the same as banned, you can import things that are refused classification, you just cant sell them here. Whereas banned items are illegal to own, like child porn or beastiality or something.

All Im saying is that id prefer to be in this situation where we have no R rating that for any game to come in regardless of the content

I think you're completely missing the point of an R rating, an R rating doesn't mean every game ever made that was refused classification would be brought in with an R rating, things would still get banned for going too far, but normal games that we should be able to buy would come in with an R rating, which would just mean an ID check at the counter for us when buying.

Why? It would follow the same sort of standards that govern movie classification. There are still restrictions on getting it and if something oversteps the bounds, it's still refused classification.

I agree.

Look at the violence in the latest Rambo movie.

Why are we allowed to subject ourselves to that, but not in a videogame (which indeed looks less-realistic)?

I live in that tosser Atkinson's electorate. He actually lives just around the corner from me. I wont be voting for the turd though. I hope i run into him one day so i can show him just how crazy gamers can be when they have their choices taken away from them. :p

I voted import.

It sounds petty but it just feels like it would be a quick fix and not as much polish would go into it. Like if they say this bit of the story has to come out because it refers to drugs they do a quick patch up and ship the game.
