Games that work/don't work on Windows 7

Recommended Posts

I have alot of mods that some people might not have, but just in case:

All of these work in Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit:

- COD: MW2 (I know it's been said)

- Counter Strike: Source

- Day of Defeat: Source

- Half-Life 2: Deathmatch

- Smashball

- Team Fortress 2

- Zombie Panic! Source

- CSS SCI FI 3: HARDWIRED

- Fortress Forever

- GoldenEye: Source (Best mod ever imo)

- Hidden: Source

- Hypercube: Source

- Stargate: The Last Stand

- Uplink

- Zombie Master 1.2.1

That's all I have at the moment.

Peace.

The link that bnew posted on the first page mentioned that NFS Underground 2 was semi-working. I've installed and played it myself and it seems to be working perfectly. 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul and Freelancer should also be added to the list.

If you can't install it, just use the CD key and it'll download instead. That's how I was able to get around it.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Medal of Honor Airborne works after a bit of mucking about

With a newer version of Ageia PhysX already installed, the installer will crash

Uninstall any PhysX drivers from Ageia, let MOH install it's own version, uninstall that and re-install your newer ones

Most Call of Duty's work (I know most have been listed)

I can not get Call of Duty and Call of Duty: United Offensive to work. Comes up with some Visual C++ error... Not sure if this is 7 or 64-bit related, but it works on my old install of XP Professional 32-bit

DiRT 1 works. I didn't have to do anything to make it work, it just did. This is on 64bit Windows 7 Professional. The game was off Steam (which claims it doesn't work on Windows 7).

I'm glad Mass Effect appears in the 'works' list, because now I know that my problem is potentially fixable: crash immediately on either 'setup' or 'play'. (I get 'detecting hardware' followed within a fraction of a second by a crash box.)

Trying to find any mention of the same problem let alone a fix is not going well.

Edit: Dammit! Two frikken days looking for a solution before posting a whinge, and I find what I was looking for all of 20 minutes afterward. FFS. Not that the game launcher works at all - I just found a workaround.

Works, no issues:

- Egosoft: X2: The Threat

- Egosoft: X3: Reunion

- Egosoft: X3: Terran Conflict

- People Can Fly: Painkiller (screen resolution issue, unrelated to OS)

- MS: Freelancer (screen resolution issue, unrelated to OS)

Mixed Results:

- Ascaron Sacred 2. Game itself runs fine, but patcher will not find game files. Game-killing bug of early version encountered before any disappearing saves issue (#7) could raise its head.

- EA The Sims 2. Game runs, but with red-flashing textures in Neighbourhood view, custom content does not appear in relevant catalogues, and expansion pack neighbourhood associations 'fall off' at every game restart. (If had a University neighbourhood in an Apartment game, for example, it's gone next session.)
