4850 x2 crossfire query

i have a sapphire 4850x2 graphics card and want to know if i bought the 4870x2 graphics card could i cross fire them i was under the assumption i could being from same family and if i buy the sapphire 4870x2 i should be able ?

Blokes at hardwarecanucks were playing around with the 4870 + 4850 crossfire in this review. While crossfiring works, 4870x2's clock speeds will drop to meet the 4850x2 speed.

 

But hey, 4870x2 and 4850x2 in crossfire will still give you a nice performance bump.

I don't think clocks on ATI cards change guys when in CF thats SLI.

 

Im pretty sure they do man.

 

I had a 4890 and a 4870 in a friends rig and set up crossfire the 4890 dropped back to the 4870 specs.

 

 

Nothing that riva tuner couldn't fix though.

 

 

I thought you tried that out when you have your 4890/4870/4850 that you went through?

I had a 4890 and 4850 in CF once just to test it, ran like a dog in most things for some reason but GPU-Z never showed any drop in clocks.

 

edit: CCC even lets you set different clocks for each card if you want to OC them.
