TPG new plans

Recommended Posts

Saw the ad on TV last night. Check the webpage, and yep, new plans and pricing structures.

http://www.tpg.com.au/products_services/ad...lus_pricing.php

I think it's time for me to change plans. Right now I'm on the old "Super" $69.99/month plan (not listed anymore) which gives 40 peak/110 offpeak and throttling down to a painful 64 kbps.

Now, you can get 120 gig (60/60) for $49.99, 130 (70/60) for $59.99, 160 (80/80) for $69.99. Also 100 and 150 single zone available for more bucks.

But the best part of all this - the throttling speed. 512 kbps on the plans I mentioned. Not shabby at all.

Although you'd possibly cop an AUP slap, you could download absolute shiteloads once you hit quota with that speed.

Only downside of all this though - their service levels seem to be headed south. I seriously considered ditching them last week after 3 or so outages that lasted about 1 and 3 hours each, all within days of each other.

Seriously considering this. The shaping speed is excellent to. 1MB shaping on the higher end plans. Very Nice.

It's ironically hilarious actually... their shaping speed is as fast or better than most of Telstra's budget plans.

When will these plans stop getting better?!!

I've only just upgraded to 100 GB / Month. Now I'm on the 120. What next?!

Seems like great plans to start me off on ADSL, only problem is the phone lines are shit round here. Is there any way that I can get someone down to my place and inspect/test the lines?

Nice! I might change over to TPG when I move house since my friend over east is with them and he has no problems with recommending them. I was hoping that iinet would update their plans shortly and they did! but for my use, it was a bit of an anti-climax. I don't use iinet phone bundle because of certain deals I have with my other phone company and thus their new plans aren't as enticing to me as they use to be.

Being on their adsl2+ only plan, they are seen as a downgrade for me unless I decide to port my phone over. 5 gb extra in peak whilst off peak times are seriously hindered via a drop to 8am. it was previously 2am to 12pm. In that situation, I would hardly use my offpeak now because of that and for an extra 5gb, it doesnt seem worth it. It was the reasonable morning hours that got me interested and now they just seem like everyone else... I hardly ever get shaped even though my quota is quite small in comparison to others e.g 10gb peak but i experienced shaping last month for 2 weeks and it was hell. I was hoping they would do the same with tpg and up their shaping to 512k but it doesnt seem that way. it's still the same old 64k crap.

I'll be looking into a new ISP in the new year. thanks for the heads up!

Timing has never been my strong point. Just got signed up with TPG on the 110GB plan (60/50) for $59/mo last week. Now we can get 10GB more for $10 less. Oh well, better early than never. :-)

Damn you Narellan exchange, damn you to hell!

ADSL 1 on the outskirts of Sydney 80GB for $70 is the best I can get.

Damn you pair gain!

I think you can change to a same or higher priced package during contract without penalty (might be not so for same price).

Probably worth looking into.

An upgrade of plan is free. A downgrade costs a small fee.

Upgrade = changing to a plan of same or higher price.

Downgrade = changing to a plan of lower price

We switched yesterday. $50 to change to lower plans, or free to "upgrade" to the same price plan with 30GB more or a more expensive plan, but either way you have to contact TPG customer service as its not automatic. We went for the cheaper plan (49.95/mo) for 10GB more. Will still save $120 over the 18 month contract (1st month already paid), but sure would have been nice if they'd mentioned the change coming when we were in the process of signing up.

It would have been free to change plans with Adam either up or down, and when they added to the caps it was automatic.

I used to live out in the middle of nowhere, I finally got DSL1 (FUCK YEAH PAIR GAIN). I had 20/20GB on 1500kbps to myself.

Moved into a bigger town near a Navy base, and still no ADSL2. :(

Now I am on 1500kbps with 15/15GB to share with two other people.

I changed over yesterday. For some stupid reason they've sent me an email asking for $13.87 - Idiots, just take the fucken money out like the normal way... last time I changed plans they took the whole amount, then refunded the prorata amount for what remained from the older plan.

Before deciding to change over, I started a new folder to hold any porn movie downloads... it got to over 25 gig in 2 weeks.

That made up my mind - I generally DL the shit just to make up the numbers, no point paying for 150 gig if you only use half of it.

Also, all the good shows tend to stop this time of year. So all I gotta do is leave the chaff alone and I reckon I'll probably struggle to do the 120.

I've never done that, downloading shit just to use my quota. I pay for the quota to download what I want to download. Most times it's more than enough, sometimes it's nowhere near enough.

We got the same thing, an email saying our account is in arrears for $13.87. We have this set up for direct debit, so I'm not going to worry about it now. But yea, pretty silly that they give us a price and then add to it after the fact.

TPG any good? I just ditched my Exetel Naked DSL2+ that I've had for a year and a half, 'cause ever since my 12 month contract ran out I've had nothing but problems.

My internet has been down since the 4th of December, and nothing their shitty support team does can fix it... I've tried various modems, phone cables, they sent a tech out once, and he got it working, then it went down the next day...

Anyway, enough about that, it's cancelled now.

I'm looking at regular ADSL2+ with TPG, 120gb for $50 a month.

I'm a heavy online gamer and wondering if anyone has ping issues, or speed issues, etc.

Previously on my Exetel naked connection I was getting 8.5mbit down, 1mbit up (when it was working okay).

if only we had more to choose from out here. the only service providers that have ADSL2+ enabled on my DSLAM are Bogpond and people telecom. we went with the latter of course, but $120 a month for 60GB is still steep. we end up capped after about 2 weeks and have to pay another $50 for extra quota to be added on mid month. I can't believe how cheap these TPG plans are.

TPG any good?

Firstly use this to see what speeds you can get. Take note of the statistics it displays of people in your area. Then post a thread in Whirlpool (in the TPG section) asking for anecdotal advice in regards to your particular exchange. See what people say.

I personally find TPG to be perfectly fine. Pings aren't an issue.
