What Are You Cooking?

Recommended Posts

Let's hear what's going on in your kitchen today?

Recipes encouraged.

I'm afraid I just came home with a beef vindaloo tonight. The most cooking that went on here was the 2 minute reheat in the microwave to make up for the trip home.

But that's not the point!

Just ate some dutch meatballs cooked in butter, with some red cabbage (sauerkraut style), mashed potatoes and veges.

Meat balls:

1kg mince

1 finely diced onion

tspn garlic

2 eggs

about 5 cups of bread crumbs

mix all together until you get a firm mix, then divide into balls, melt about 5 tbspn butter and cook the balls over high heat in heavy based pan. When balls are browned well on all sides, pour approx 1 cup water into pan, cover and let steam for approx 30 mins. (when cooked pour the butter / water over the mashed potatoes)

Red Cabbage

1/2 red cabbage shredded

1 finely diced onion

1 cup of diced speck (bacon works ok)

2 bay leaves

5 tbspn melted butter

sugar and vinegar to taste

This is a sweet and sour type dish...

Melt the butter into a stock pot, add the onion and speck and fry until speck is semi crisp. Add the bay leaves and cabbage, stir through. Add the vinegar (about a cup) and then add the sugar (about 1/2 cup) and put the lid on the pot. Steam until soft. Then you need to make it to your taste.. not to sugary and not too much vinegar. Yummo :D

Sounds interesting Devere.

For tea I had a rissotto type cheats thing I made with what I had around.

Brown rice (already cooked and stored for those cbf moments), pumpkin soup, steamed carrots and broccoli, bacon. Wasn't too bad if I do say so myself.

For supper it's going to be crumpet with butter and honey =).

Mainly green tea for this fella.

Though my love of said tea somehow led me on to black tea and black coffee along the way.

Just say no to milk.

mmmm . . . ..

just had this awesomely slurpalicious beef stew.

oh, advantages of living at home . .. .

it'll be annoying when I have to move out, having to cook every night and come up with something nice.

Which I suppose is what this thread is all about, really.

Last night I made a persian salad... Green beans, cauliflower, feta, preserved lemon, almonds... It was improvised and the dressing needs work, but it was satisfying. I had it with a baked chicken/yogourt/rice thing that was spiced with cinnamon.

Tonight I think I'll make wontons with steamed/sauteed asian greens, in a spicy asian duck stock. I've got some fried rice I'll have that with as well, to add some more nutrition.

Friday, I'm thinking a slow braised duck with lentils. And bruschetta, because I have some lovely onion and parmesan bread I need to use.

Saturday we're on the road so it'll be Maccas.

Sunday I've got rehersal all day so I'll whack something in the slow cooker. I'm thinking a cardamom chicken curry, then I'll just have to make the rice and a side when I get home.
