GPU for "Cheap quad" build.

Recommended Posts

The build is;

CPU AMD AM3 Phenom II x3 720 Black Edition

MB\GPU Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H

RAM 2x2g ddr3 1600

HDD 1TB 7200 32M

DVD PIONEER 218

CASE Antec NSK4480B-II 380w

with probably a Acer V203H 20" monitor.

I was wondering whether I should upgrade the GPU so that maybe movies and general image looks better? (wont be used for gaming).. if so what GPU should i buy?

And

Should I buy a different monitor instead of the v203h? (getting the v203h + keyboard and mouse for 115$ 2nd hand)

20" is still a decent size, if it looks big enough it probably is

You don't need a graphics card if you are not gaming, that chipset will handle HD content easily

WRONG :)

my HD3300 (790 chipset) got me by just fine for HD movies and even ran older DX9 games half ok (alright.. not that well :P)

I would suspect that Jeruselem had his tongue firmly planted is his (or somebody's) cheek when he said that lol.

I'd try something like a 9500gt or something. So even if you do decide to play smaller games (like SIMS or whatever) you'll at least have a little bit of flex, and that should free up some of your RAM to. For 60-70 bucks not a bad little card...

I think nVidia is replacing the 9500GT with the GTS210 or GTS220.

Erm, hold on... Am I the only person to notice the slight divergence between the thread title and the CPU used? Is the OP planning on unlocking the fourth core... am curious.

So a triple-core is a 'cheap quad'? ;)

It is after you unlock a core. AMD really hit on a niche by accident you know that. So many people want to buy a dual or triple core just so they can unlock a core.

I guess it makes some nerds feel dirty.
