qx9650 vs qx9770: does the extra fsb matter?

Recommended Posts

i am interested, how much does the difference between the fsb's matter, and is it worth the extra 400 or so? (on ebay)

No, I don't consider it to be worth the extra $400.

The real world performance differences between the two CPUs is nothing.

Of course it's really up to you, whether you want to spend the extra money.

Since the 9650 is unlocked like the 9770 it would be a simple matter of upping the multi 1 level to make a faster chip (3.33 v 3.2)

Only in benchmarks, and only by a little bit.

Definitely not worth the extra dough :)

Well... There are certain things to consider.

The FSB x the Multi = CPU Clock speed.

So 333 x 10 = 3.33Ghz

and 400 x 10 = 4.00Ghz

As well as the RAM speed.

333 x 2 = DDR2 667

400 x 2 = DDR2 800

So yeah, the extra FSB does actually give some good performance increases if you can use it right.

HOWEVER, seeing as they're both extreme chips, you can easily change the multy to suit the other, and since you can also simply change the FSB in the BIOS from 333 to 400, there's no reason to spend an extra 400 dosh.
