A Challenge (Dragons Age)

Recommended Posts

This game is a big challenge..its nothing like other RPG's released by bioware over the years..this game actually requires tactics..

has anyone had problems with how hard this game is ??? ive found ive died several times and its taken me a while to finally get past certain moments.. ive googled this and found theres a large group of people who find this game extremely hard... is this a blessing or will it ruin the game in the long run u think ?? i think ordinary gamers who dont play many rpgs will probably find this game unplayable even on easy.. and restarting over and over to get over parts will make them stop playing altogether.

i had to retreat a fair way from one boss and come back later which was a bit of a pain but other than that i didnt find it hard

ive found myself screwed when it was multiple enemies with 1 or 2 hard bosses..

i can destroy anything on my own .. but its the multiple swarms..

It requires a fair bit of planning and tactical thinking, rather than just mobbing everything. I've found that the areas that are difficult vary on your approach- I got slaughtered in some areas my friends got on the first try, and I breezed through battles my friends considered extremely hard.

Flanking, dividing and conquering, you'll need to do a lot of this if you are to survive. Frontal charges will get you laid out pretty hard.

well ud have different character build than your friends.. ull find the AI sometimes goes differently each time u play and i use that to my advantage ..if the ai was perfect this game would almost be impossible to finish without dying a million times.

in this game ive just now realized i have to equip my friends with the best shit i can find..because they need it.. in other RPGS i never bothered much about my friends..

Pause and order issuing is your friend.

Aslong as your AI settings dont override what you told them..

Remember to do the special effects too like criting frozen targets to 1 hit them etc..

yea i bet if u worked hard on learning all the stragedy behind this game it would probably be the best rpg ever released.. i kinda figured this is how a true RPG should play like..

i wonder if this new method will go over to Mass Effect 2..i kinda hope not ..

a melee attacker will slaughter anything easily that is not a melee attacker..so mages dont last long in this game..im lucky i made a warrior or i wouldnt be able to enjoy the game as much as i have atm

I think once you find a party that works, everything sorta develops around that.

Also trial and error (4 characters before I've got a party mix that is close to completing 75% of the game), pausing and re-issuing orders, developing combat tactic slots (if self health < 50% use least powerful health poultice) and having a healer makes things easier. The games that have run the longest have had Mages Tower completed earlier (healer npc)

I didn't really have a challenge with any of it, except the first time I fought a Revanent, it pwned me, after that I learnt what it was capable of and managed to down it fairly easily.

It's all about the approach.

You just need to either knock them down or stun them, if you hit them enough they can't do anything, sit behind a shallow wall so they have t come around and be in close range with you, it's fairly easy, they won't even get a hit in if you time the stuns well enough. Vulnerability hex is also very useful against them.

I've never played it, but alot of games will just be downright blistering to finish without the right character build, does this game allow crossclassing like NWN?

If you do the homework on the races/classes/skill/spells/abilities, you could come up with a better build than building standard melee masher and clickup STR on every lvl.

There's no multi classing but there is specialisations, there are 3 classes (rogue, mage and fighter) and then 4 specialisations for each and you can have 2 specialisations. There are alot of different skill paths to choose from though.

ah I see, once you ace the right combinations for a good build, bam you're on easy street (in comparison).

I'm using my NWN experience as a judge. I played the SP hordes of the underdark campain through for the first time since I didn't know how to build well.

holy shit it cut the time to finish in half, normal difficulty was stupidly easy.

(I just used a DC Necro sorc paladin)

if ur any fan of rpg bioware than play this game.. its quite good and challenging..ive played 2 days straight and only reached lvl 10 just now..its very slow in lvling up but thats only because most people finish the game at lvl 20-24.. but theres NO level cap..so if u wanna run around in circles for eternity u may..

PLUS theres an expansion coming out in a few months..its the perfect time to finish it and wait for campaign.....plus it has 20 DLC's..and i dont think those DLC's will stop anytime soon..

its worthy of a purchase...graphics aint spectacular if u compare to a modern game..but if u compare it to NVW..than u should be pleased

Aye, once I finish my current list of non NWN games, I'll look into it.

Learning a new RPG will be hard :/ I guess not too much change because it's still D&D.

3 classes is a pretty poor effort though, doesn't seem complicated enough for me haha, (I'll likely eat my words)

It's not really D&D, it's very similar, but not the same.

And no, it isn't complicated enough. I enjoyed the complication of the other games, Throne of Baal in particular, it made your character feel unique. In this one it's just the skill set you aim for. Like in my game I aimed for dual weapons, I can still use other weapons but not nearly to the same effect and not the same special attacks. Instead of having a spell book you have spells unlocked as skills, it's sort of stupid but it fleshes out towards the end when you have an arsenal at your hands. You'll understamnd when you see it. Hopefully you will see how shallow it is as well.

if youve had experience with any 'classic' RPG mechanic regarding class balance (tank in front taking the damage, rogues behind target, mages, archers and healers stand back) then its fairly easy. there are some chalenging moments that require a bit more tactical thinking, but can be easile done if you know the ins and outs of your class. dont always rely on the 'combat tactics' for your party members as youll probably need to manually control a character if something doesnt go according to plan.

i also went with dual weapon warrior, they can do some serious damage towards the end game.

PS. I WANT RETURN TO OSTAGAR NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You need:

- a tank (warrior or arcane warrior with a shield)

- 3 dps (damage dealers), preferably 1-2 magi, ranged dps is better than melee

Mages do A LOT of damage, so if your PC isn't a mage then look into using wynne or morrigan.

Must have abilities for mage:

- Heal

- Crushing Prison

- Fireball

Winter's grasp and Cone of Cold are also very good.

You can't be a blood mage unless your PC is a mage, but if it is, then definitely become a blood mage and then blood wound is the best spell in the game.

I haven't played the game on Hard or Nightmare, but it's not hard on Normal. You just need to make sure they're all attacking the tank, and then unload from a distance. On Normal, friendly fire is reduced from the normal damage, so for instance if 6 mobs are piled on your tank then a fireball is a good investment (assuming it won't kill him). Same goes for CoC. Also Force Field can be used on friendly targets which can be good for a break.
