Cards.

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking that I haven't played cards in ages.

I used to play five hundred alot when I was at boarding school and it was great. I even managed to win open misere a few times.

I'm also quite partial to poker. Either 5 card draw or Texas hold 'em.

So what card games do you lot play?

I spent 7 days pretty much playing Blackjack daily in Vegas a couple of months back.

I was there with a work colleague who's a mathematical genius...got all sorts of degrees and was once an actuary.

So a very cluey guy when it comes to counting...

We were doing really well, never would I want to go to a casino with anyone else other than him.

It's not like in the movies though...the dealers don't give a fuck if you count cards, it's legal..in fact, they're more than happy to give you advice while you play. Dealers in Vegas are awesome.

However, you pull out a mobile phone or camera while you're sitting at a table and you get one warning, otherwise they turf you.

I neglected to mention that I was completely smashed and living on 3 hours sleep a night for the entire time...wish I could remember what he taught me.

When I was in my teens my family went overseas several years running for holidays in Europe and the UK and travelled mostly by rail using Eurail and Britrail passes. So we would play cards a lot on the trains. Euchre (pronounced you-ker) was the family favourite. As well as Rummy. I haven't played Euchre for years and was only thinking about it a couple of days ago.

We had an infamous cards night at Noddy's place.

Myself, Logic, Noddy and Juggs....fuck me dead we drank some piss.

I don't think anyone's been game enough to call another game!

I was hooked on soltaire for a while like a crack addict. Obsessed. Good game :) Always play a game when my computer starts up now :P

I used to also love Spit. I haven't played that in ages though. I used to be a pro :P

Spoons was the game of school camps too :)

Haven't played in ages...

a bit over 20 years ago, we used to play 7 card stud for money at work.

Got into Euchre after that. Then 500... much better game.

Then got into Canasta. Great game with 4 players.

Also have played Samba, stuffed if I can remember the rules (or some of Canasta for that matter).

Bridge. Very badly. Learnt it at uni. This is what happens when you hang around bridge players and circumstances mean there are only 3 of them. "Play with us!" "But I can't play!" "Don't worry. We'll teach you." An extremely common dialogue with a lot of people who've learnt.

preferred 2 player; Gin Rummy, a multi patck patience game, and modified Beggar's 2. EDIT: - German Whist - good practice for counting cards.

preferred 3 player; 7's - completely mindless but good to chat over, and modified Beggar's 2

preferred 4 player; bridge, 500, Beggar's 2.

preferred >4 player; Hearts, Double pack hearts, Solo, Emperor Scum.

I quite like cards. Really crap at gambling though. I can't take it seriously. Texas hold em is kind of interesting providing people don't get annoyed at me for not taking it seriously. Same goes for bridge - if people are not playing it for fun then I'll stay out of it.

Rybags - what is the *point* of Canasta? Once you start losing, you keep losing.

Euchre, 500, scumbags and warlords, various forms of patience (single and double handed)

Play blackjack (or 21) when I'm bored. Used to play no-bet poker too.

Cheat was one of my favourite games, except you can never find enough players for a good game.
