Climate change issue resolved?

Recommended Posts

Oh now this is positively brilliant.

I was reading this paper and trying to make sense of it. Have no fear - it's peer reviewed by the Journal of Climate :)

And I noticed this:

It remains possible that the database is insufficient to compute mean sea level trends with the accuracy necessary to discuss the impact of global warming—as disappointing as this conclusion may be

Carl Wunsch seems like an honest dude but I had this feeling I'd seen his name before.

So I checked him out because the name seemed familiar.

Guess where I saw his name?

One guess...

OK I'll tell you - his name was one of the 250 signatures to the letter in the OP. And this is what he signed onto:

(iii) Natural causes always play a role in changing Earth’s climate, but are now being overwhelmed by human-induced changes.

(iv) Warming the planet will cause many other climatic patterns to change at speeds unprecedented in modern times, including increasing rates of sea-level rise and alterations in the hydrologic cycle.

In brief, when we actually go to the scientific literature we see that the ‘authoritative’ assertions are no more credible than my claim that I am Thor, god of Thunder.

Well, I want Mjolnir then.

And yes, this demonstrates the earlier point.

Halving the world's population would make a difference.

If you do it all at once, the cleanup would be hell.

Ignore climate change, nothing you can do about it on a scale which is going to make a significant difference for the whole world.

Resolved.

Resolved.

That's about right.

No reason to stop trying things though.

Just got to get these screaming loonies to calm down a bit.
