StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty

Recommended Posts

Buy it locally - $69 from JB or DSE

The ANZ/SEA version will get access to the US server soon enough and it will give you a choice as to where you play.

Have updated the OP

Achievements - alot of people were having issues last night (midnight for me) - it seems they are back but I have not verified.

Havent even gotten around to buying my copy yet...

I think 16 hours is probably rushed though.

StarCraft 2 Editor for FPS custom games

Not bad for just mucking around with the editor. Seems to be a very flexible platform.

I believe its 29 missions. Guessing a comfortable play-through would take 20-25 hours.

I'd have to agree 16 hours sounds rushed.

That said, i'm only 4 missions in -- so its a total guess.

I'm pretty sure that if i played on easy i could knock it off pretty quickly, but I'm playing on hard and trying to get all the achievements and complete all optional objectives in ever mission. It's a long time til the net campaign to we have to make it last :P

Well mine was working, after having to fuck around with settings ... now it gets stuck on the first screen, in a frozen state with the music going. Won't go past it. FML.

1) Have to create a damn Battlenet account before I can play.

2) Had to dl a fucking patch before I can play.

3) Still waiting for the fucking account verification email from Battlenet.

For this I paid $100?

Blizzard is now officially in my shitbook.

Oracle X: agree 100%!! so annoying that after i bought the game and installing it i had to register for bnet.

i guess while it was installing, registering wasn't that bad, but i had to wait for the verification email. and by the time the installation was completed the email had still not arrived! I tried to play anyway but obviously it would not let me.

finally email comes about 40-60 mins later and I activate it. then i have to log into bnet to play.

And now my thoughts on SC2:

WTF at the missions?!?!?! is this some sort of overblown tutorial with tidbits of 'story' here and there?

i mean it seems like i'm playing some sort of funky new mass effect without the FPS part.

"go to this planet" collect X amount of resources. mission complete

"go to this planet" escort civilians. mission complete

"go to this planet" steal some gas from the protoss. mission complete

"go to this planet" destroy trains. mission complete.

is this wow grinding? seriously. when am i going to get some missions to amass my army and go kill the enemy base??

i really enjoyed playing through the original SC and have the story play out. Now they've had to expand it across three parts and i think they are just inserting random useless missions to make it 'worth the money'.

not at home so can't remember which mission number i'm up to but so far i'm not that impressed with the gameplay and i certainly hope it picks up the pace at which point i know they'll do some sorta cliffhanger and you have to wait however long to get the next part.

p.s i need to get new hard drives cause my load times are horrendous!!! not that i'm blaming blizz, i know my hard drives need to be replaced. =P

lol yeah, the missions are a little underwhelming. Basically there to showcase the units, one mission per unit and you just have to spam that unit and win. The reward is upgrades and research that should have been available from your building structures anyway.

I find the cut scenes amateurish, stupid country and western music annoys the shit out of me. Story telling is sub standard compared to Brood Wars.

Srsly Blizzard, you can do better than this. Or has your decade of WoW patching muddled your brain with obsessions with upgrades, resource farming and cheezy dialogs?

I've seen some cut scenes and gameplay on youtube and honestly, this game looks crap. It's not one I want to spend $100 on anyhow.

Thats why you spend $69 and quit bitching.

The game is good I feel its kept to its roots. Sure there is a massive tut but alot of people buying this are going to be nubs so its needed.

WTF is wrong with a 40mb patch what are you on dial up?

Account verification is instant check you're junk email folder :)

Wait, what?

$69? WTF where?

Nothing wrong with a patch... a month after the game has been released.

Why the fuck does it need a patch 1 day after? Does that not say "we didn't properly test the game before releasing it even though it's been on beta for a gazillion years"?

Who pays $100 for a game these days?

And how does an old WoW player not have a battle.net account already? :S

You could fairly easily throw a generalisation over most RTS single player campaigns that they give you one unit at a time and teach you the best way to use it in that one mission.

I do agree with the other point though, country music is evil...

Happens all the time. They found some things they wanted to tweak in the time between finishing the game and release at least they patched it instead of people complaining about how shit part of the game was.

yeah i found that after you install it and run it, it downloads a patch, installs the patch. then downloads another patch and you gotta wait for that one to install too!

i've been playing traditional RTS games since i was first introduced to computers and Dune 2 back when i was in grade 6! so i've played my fair share of RTS ever since as i really enjoy the genre.

for some reason, with SC2 it just doesn't feel right, the progressive tech tree as you play is a given, pretty much every RTS does that, but the missions i feel are abit lack lustre and as mentioned previously they feel more like a WoW grind session then anything story related.

and i blame that on the fact that they have spread 1 game to 3 parts and have to somehow justify to the market why they need to buy 1 game 3 times (not sure how they are going to price the next segments though).

i'm really excited to see what people do with custom maps and games! can't wait for SC2 TD's to come as i absolutely love TD's on WC3.

also where are all the pre-rendered cinematics? i'm abit disappointed but it is still early on!

Umm, I'm about 8 hours into the campaign and every single mission has been different.

Escort style, Defense maps, Maps with race conditions, Maps with small squads, maps with entire bases.

I think they've done an excellent job breaking out of the "Build Base - > Kill the other guy" Model.

I see a lot of bitchin gin this thread from people who have obviously not gotten past the first couple missions.

Play the game to completion. Then come back.

I've been happy with this so far, but I've found I'm an infantry whore - reapers + rines + medics en masse = win.

And for the record - I'm about 23/26 in the campaign. Whilst there are 29 missions (excluding the mini protoss campaign... which is FUCKING EPIC), you can only play 26 of them in any given play through due to forks in the road.

WTF, just bought this game. Installed it. Froze on a black screen after the first loading screen.

Alt-F4'd and tried again. Game loads this time, but now I have no sound????

**edit **

Ok, got it working. Reinstalled sound drivers and rebooted.

Now, does anyone know how to force this game to open on my secondary monitor? I've tried dragging it across in windowed mode, then going back to fullscreen, but it flicks back to my primary monitor.

And I've just finished the campaign. All in all fun times, although I missed a bit of story due to my netbook fucking out during the rendered cutscenes (funny how the in engine shiz works fine, but the CG stuff fudges out).

Has anyone got "this battle.net account does not include an associated copy of starcraft 2"

I have a Guest Pass registered on Bnet but the primary install was done from an iso and autoupdated via battle net. So I haven't stolen it I assume it explodes after 7 hours...

The intro looked so amazing and after 4 months of watching day 9 replays I actually wanna give it a bash for 7 hours.

Whats this verification email everyone is complaining about. I added SC 2 to my account while it was installing and started playing straight away? I didn't have to verify anything apart from add the cdkey to my account. I had to download a patch but it was only 36 megs and that should only take a few minutes as most people are on broadband now.

I really don't see what the problem is.....
