Cheers!

I was using my iPhone last night and it just didn't work. The new iOS4 just doesn't like the hardware of the 3G, so at that point, I bit the bullet and bought it.

Now I play the waiting game.

You know what I notice? Whenever I come across a picture of the Desire (which is a lot, lately), it's always 10:08am.

--edit-- Well, except the NextG one. I suppose it depends if you're a morning or an afternoon person.

No need for apps like Ringdroid.

Just put your MP3 file on your SD card into

./media/audio/ringtones <-- When you go to select a ringtone it will now be in your list

./media/audio/alarms <-- Use an MP3 of your choice as an alarm

./media/audio/notifications <-- same thing with notification sounds.

This site is useful for learning basics

http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/04/htc-desire-new-user-guide/

Welcome to Club Desire :)

I'm playing around with Layar at the moment. Unfortunately not much of Cairns has been registered with the app :(

Also if you haven't done so - Settings -> Security -> Set Unlock Pattern

Every time you unlock the phone you have to enter a pattern. It's a simple security measure to stop people mucking around with your phone.

That Layar thing looks mad cool, but it also looks like it would deplete my battery life and data allowance in a few minutes flat... :(

one thing i have noticed compared to the iPhone is that when i go to a website, it doesn't show the phone website, its the normal one which means i have to zoom right in to be able to read it.

Is there a way to change that or is that just how it is?

got this far and got sidetracked afew weeks ago. waswn't overly fussed about ringtone.

only grabbed Ringdroid to select a portion of a track to convert.

I was looking at the Desire for quite some time but I think the Samsung Galaxy S is a much nicer phone (for the native Divx/Xvid playback if nothing else)...

Galaxy S also has a better processor. Looks horrible though.

You mean it looks like an iPhone ;)

Indeed it does. I never liked the iPhone style. The new iPhone is significantly better, but I prefer it when the screen fills more of the front face (like the Evo 4G). Edited by .:Cyb3rGlitch:.

yeah, I know what you mean.

Apart from that it appears to be a great phone, better than the Desire in some areas. However, the last thing I need is another contender :(

In other news, Intel has partnered with Nokia to deliver an Intel powered smartphone next year...

i just looked at galaxy s after reading this tread and it is an iphone replica. not sure how well it performs but it does have a better cpu than desire. BTW i have both HTC desire and an iphone 3gs and I like desire better as a phone. I think most of apple's app are quite good (paid ones). android marketplace is growing exponentially and will soon leave itunes appstore behind.

I'm not sure why the Galaxy S being a physical iClone is such a problem... it's not for me, couldn't care less so long as the quality and performance is there.

The iPhone 4 has Samsungs' CPU which they designed, only fair that Samsung get to borrow something from Apple... ;)

When it gets to this point, I reckon it's personal preference :)
