Election night?

Recommended Posts

Seems labour were massacred in NSW, can't even find an ACT result......

:)

Australia is in the swing-phase, again, we'll end up with a Labor Fed and States Liberal in no time.....

Cheers

That's because it's irrelevant, remember?

NSW had an election? Didn't they just have one?

Apparently the greens have done well, one report says they will be important in which ever government forms.

I saw a couple of bits of coverage on ABC1 TV.

Looks like Labor got 41% or so, Liberal trailing. Then again, that Zed bloke is a dodgy looking young fucker. They have better talent in the ranks and should have picked a more suitable leader.

Greens supposedly polling well. Why people vote for them, I have NFI.

Motorists party getting some votes. I gave them support too.

I predict we'll have another term on Nohope bumbling, most likely as a minority government relying on the Greens.

Of course, there's always the possibility of a breakaway mid-term, so don't be surprised if the Liberals form an alliance and turn the tables down the track, as has happened in the past.

I reckon that report came from the Greens.

:)

It is irrelevant, its a big town, not a state, just happens to have that big building on the hill that thinks it runs the country.

If it were not for the porn industry the rest of Oz would probably just ignore it.... :)

Always amuses me, the view from 50,000 feet of Australia would be very confusing for a man from mars..... :)

Cheers

I voted Dem, Green, Independent, Liberal then Labor.

I'm in Ryde btw, the same people who told Howard to pack his bags last year. A bit ironic.

But it holds statehood now, or is close to, doesn't it? with the NT those were the last two mainland territories to become states, I think we still have a few islands etc, but the whole Territory thing is gone really.

Cheers

Edit: :) I correct myself, still hasn't happened apparently, makes three fifths of fuck all sense to me.......

Seriously, mate. You've got no idea. As I said, it's all in the name. The Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. They're not states, they're territories.

Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia...They're the states of Australia. Take a look at the fucking flag, the seven pointed star in particular. One point for each state, one point to represent the various territories.

The local assembly members tend to think of themselves as Statesmen.

Then again, it's gravy train on most local councils too. They put the Federal Government to shame when you consider wastage and perks when compared on a pro-rata basis of the income they receive vs their expenditure.

Labor deserved a big fall and didn't get it here. Debacles like the Power Station which they wanted to build 600 metres from suburbia, the Gungahlin Drive extension which was doomed to under-capacity from the word go, rubbish roadside artworks being commissioned at utterly rediculous pricetags, etc etc.

The thing about Canberra is that many people are insulated due to being employed by the government, and still tend towards Labor as they hang onto the old belief that Labor effects Public Service job cuts less than Liberal do.

ed - I forgot to add.

It is also rediculous that in a place with a population of 320,000 or so that they decide to split the local jurisdiction into 3 electorates, of 2x5 and 1x7 seats.

There are people sitting in this assembly that have the power to make decisions that affect the entire city/territoryl, and I don't like a number of them, and I have absolutely no say about who sits in 12 of the 17 seats available.

At least here in the ACT we've only got two levels of government to deal with.

There is and has been for years a concerted effort to convert the last two Territories to being States.

If either one goes the other will, and to be honest I thought they already had, but, apparently it is still a process in motion.

Politically its a bit of a minefield, but, it will happen.

Meh, Australian politics internally is an on-going joke, I keep focussed on the International scene, it makes no more sense, but is more relevant :)

Cheers

I think we should be getting rid of the States, and merging local governments such that we have a hundred or so local areas.

Bring such things as Education and Health into absolute Federal control.

Leave the things like road maintenance and public housing to the Locals.
