1200 build

Recommended Posts

As my current system has decided to die on me (I've been using a Dell netbook for the past month, ugh), I've decided to fast-track the purchase of my new machine. Ive set myself a 1200 budget and come up with this:

Notes:

DVD Drive not required

Monitor not required

Mouse/Keyboard not required

2 of everything as my friend asked me to build him the exact same tower.

Can anyone see any problems with this?

yep +1 psu suggestion

Patriot Inferno 60GB SandForce SSD $145 is well worth the extra over the onyx

you could save yourself a little cash and grab one of these each then you can just grab a second stick later when you need more

Corsair CMV4GX3M1A1333C9 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 $75

or just grab these as there cheaper

Corsair VS2GB1333D3 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3 $33

you will get the best performance out of a i7 950 with three sticks of ram for triple channel but they run fine with 1-2 sticks

you could save some cash and get a i5 760 setup there not much slower and a fair bit cheaper if you dont intend to use crossfire

if you do intend to use 6870 cf maybe you should up the psu a bit more still

Onyx 32GB SSD. Up to 120MB/s read, 70MB/s write. Meh, going to make bugger all difference to performance vs the F3, I wouldn't bother.

Yep the f3 is almost as fast. Not worth getting the SSD.

the one place it dose well is seek times which would make a noticeable improvement but not really worth the extra cost of buying it septate to the f3

a good 60g ssd on the other hand is less than twice the price and twice the speed so possibly worth it

As one of atomic's vision impaired users, I'm unable to help because you used an image rather than listing the items you were looking at.

Something you (and others) might want to keep in mind for the future, both to maximise your support base as well as general courtesy.
