Looking for a CPU cooler

Recommended Posts

hey,

as you guys have read im having a little fun comp with nobody13 to test out systems.

so as im going to overclock im running the intel stock cooler at the moment (bad,i know) so i want to change it to something better (for both cooler temps and Overclocking)

i was looking at the hyper 212 plus, but im in a little bit of a dilema, see because my case is so small (its a mirco ATX) im limited on choice.

as you can see here:

the stock cooler is very close to the PSU.

heres another shot showing everything:

so if you guys know of a good cooler that would fit then that would be great!

thanks,

If you keep your case:

CoolerMaster Vortex Plus Low Profile CPU Cooler

If you get a new case:

Case could be a:

CoolerMaster Elite 430 Black with window

CoolerMaster Centurion 5 II Black (same as the CM Storm Scout inside)

CoolerMaster Gladiator 600 (same as the CM Storm Scout inside)

As well as a Hyper 212+

a good decent fan like a 3000rpm ultra kaze and a fan reducer?

Haha, all that reducer does is just the good ol' 7V mod. Basically wires up the 12V to 12V as normal, but rather than having ground to ground, it's 5V instead. Having the fan's positive lead as 12V and its negative lead as 5V results in a difference of 7V - hence making it spin slower.

Easy and cheap to do. Otherwise, it's only $1.50 (but where's the fun in that? :P).

Oh, and I'd suggest boosting your case airflow, too. If you've only got a little to spend, perhaps invest in a case that comes with a good rear exhaust and front intake. That's just as important as making sure the CPU is cooled - after all, the heat that comes off the heatsink has to go somewhere!

PFFT!!!! I have a smaller case than that!

thats just a nice mATX xase. Get yourself a Noctua C12P; it'll rip your temps to SHREDS!

EDIT: i also demand the location of your background; as i wish for it.

ill look into that cooler, hey, dont you mean this one:http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=35&lng=en

yes my current case is POS so getting a new/2nd hand one would be a good idea to imrove airflow.

ill be on the lookout for something like the HAF 922 (a 2nd hand one)

@master_Scythe: ill pm you my background!

EDIT: i feel honoured that the great and wise Thefunj as said a good suggestion...and helped me with my problem...

Yep, the C12P, thats the right one.

I have a mATX Coolermaster case, with, what I think is less room than yours, and mine fits fine. It cools just as well as the tower version too!

great piece of kit IMO.

It's my philosophy.

Take almost any hardware problem, "watercool it" is the right answer for almost everything.

"oh my stupid ram heatspreaders fins block my cpu cooler!"

"Watercool it"

SOLVED

I was hoping it would go more like this.

If you want to leave it on, grab whatever is cheapest man.

Something from the thermaltake guys for example. find anything thats 'better than stock' and be happy. Then again those temps arent bad, and will only get better with cleaning (and good paste if you used the stock shit the first time).

But yes, the noctua can go on all chips, and comes with all brackets in the same box. love it. one of the BEST coolers on the market, and one of the few high performers that arent giant tower coolers (i like airflow over my PWM's or ram, depending on board)

Still trying to work out why we are having a big discussion on cooling a system that won't need much and certainly not water-cooling.

The mainboard is a bottom end PoS and no good for any decent Overclocks. The VRM's are too small, the NB chipset is a G series (crap) and the memory control is sad.

Just put a small thermaltake or the likes on it and be done with it.

As I said originally, clean out the dust and clean out the OS as you have plenty of crap in there slowing things down.

Not too many seasoned overclockers responding.
