Recommended Posts

I am heading home now, so I'll get on my PS3 if my housemate isn't using it and add you guys. I am hoping to get on some time today for a number of races. Hopefully I'll see some of you on.

There is a 'boost' option in multiplayer, yeah. I have never used it though, as it seems like it belongs in a Need for Speed type game. There is an option I use, though, that reverses the starting grid based on the previous race results.

The 'boost' option does not mean a 'boost' button is now available of anything sus like that. I think it just means the cars behind, get an increase to accelleration and speed (you dont even notice as it scales depending on how far behind the leader each car is. I remember using it back in the day, and it did help keep races close. The effect dissapears when you near the race leader so its still fair racing, just means the guys with less experience still have a chance of getting in on the action instead of getting lapped.

And if you stuff up it doesn't mean race over. Keeps the fun factor up, and thats what counts in multplayer I think.

Oh and P.s. Will be home in a couple of hours, will look to see if you are still on PSN :-)

Came across this, it looks pretty cool. :)

Had a number of races online tonight (for future reference, all my games are titled "Aussie racing.")... but every race was horrible. Half the server were non-Australians, being laggy, teleporting all over the track, driving erratically, deliberately blocking faster cars, etc. I forgot to set the penalties to strong. One guy I actually know came into the server and rammed me right off the grid, and if I was ever in front of him, he rammed me and used me as brakes/a wall for corners just so he could be in front of me. Such a tool. It almost seems nobody knows how to drive when it comes to playing online. People are all over the track, crashing into each other, hitting barriers and walls... some people even drive backwards. After a couple races I got strict 'cause I was sick of raging at everybody via mic. Set the penalties to strong, mechanical damage to high, and restricted the car to a mid-powered (~300bhp) one, in hope that it would stop some of the moronic driving.

Needless to say it didn't really help, and about 1/3 of the racers left 'cause they didn't like it.

After that, we did 5 laps of Monza in the F40 for my last race of the night... every lap I saw someone smashing into the barrier on the first corner.

It'll be good to get some races going with people who understand where their brake pedal/button is, and know not to drive directly behind another car coming up to a corner at high speed in case they brake unexpectedly, or too early and you go flying up their ass-end (happens to me almost every race, I can't stand people ramming me).

I did take some new photos today, though. I haven't put them on my PC yet. I will share them when I get the time.

Im loving GT5!

I bought a Porsche last night, I saw a CV8 monaro for sale so a Ford Falcon GT must be in there somewhere, there was a Veyron also and the Team Orica? Viper also. Its a bit sad that they aren't premium cars but at least they are there.

I cant help myself but look after every 3 races to see what pops up

Did i mention Im loving GT5

The only bad thing I have seen is the shadows of your car before you start a race, other than that Im loving it ;)

Don't count on it. They got cut. The GT and the F6 Typhoon. The only good Australian car. But hey, once again we got two Monaro's which is good. Precious space taken up by cars that shouldn't have made the cut. Next time, I want the used dealership to be online, so you get the cars you want downloaded to the game, and then they can pack more stuff in. And just employ dudes to make lots of cars.

I'm sorry to go against the rules of this thread but GT5 is pretty naff. It feels like a testing the water exercise for the series in the realm of PS3. They did cut and paste GT4's car list, and just add a few more. However they have set the ground work for GT6, which will hopefully be clean slate, and awesome.

BTW Reb1rth. The 458 is Whack. Most the Italians are. SLS AMG, and Mach1 Mustang for the win. Actually, I should go snap em, and put em up. Oh and you'll hate NASCAR... absolutely hate it. I don't what possessed Kaz to put it in, but they're wost thing on that game you'll drive.

I enjoy the 458. It's a nice drive.

The Mach1 Mustang is also cool. My next lot of cars I buy will be some muscle classics, I think. I want to get my hands on an old Dodge Challenger.

The only muscle car I currently have is a 1969 Corvette Stingray, and I must have more! I enjoy driving them 'cause you can feel/notice the weight shift more, I dunno why but it kinda feels more fun to drive.

I also need to obtain a pre-1974 race car, and a modern race car for the last two series in Expert that I have left... but they're so god-damn expensive!

As for Nascar, the special events were fine. Sure, driving around in a circle is god-damn boring. But Nascar racing itself can be pretty intense stuff... all the drafting and constant competition, doorhandle to doorhandle racing.

I look forward to giving a proper Nascar race a shot (I hope to find one in the Extreme series in A-Spec). I have driven them online, but that's all. It's crazy when two cars collide and you're coming up behind them and you can't see a thing through all the smoke. You just have to choose a line and run with it. Hoping you come out okay on the other side.

Actually, I really liked NASCAR.

I think NASCAR is one of the most boring forms of motorsport to watch (second only to F1 or motoGP) but I always thought actually being in the drivers seat would be super intense (much like camping lol, sorry I have a wierd sense of humor) And i think GT5 pulled it off. The sounds are extreemly well done, the cockpit view looks awesome and the only way to get that true NASCAR feel, and they nailed the surgeon-like precision needed to be victorious.

It's difficult, but I always thought it would be. And I just love the sound of those big blocks pulling almost 10,000rpm :-)

I couldn't give a rats if either the Monaro or the FPV/Typhoon made it in or not. Having driven them all in real life, I'm pretty sure their virtual conterparts would be just as shite as they are in real life. Sorry to all Holden and FORD fans, each to their own and all that, but you couldn't pay me to own either (I'm a mechanic by trade, so maybe I'm a little bias)

I would have liked a V8 supercar, that would have been cool. Some Holden/FORD battles would have been good fun. (even if the race cars do share the same engine, gearbox, suspension, diff, and the chasis is cut and shunted so the FORD and Holden have the same length/width wheelbase, so they are esentaily the same car, with a different shell and they don't acctually use anything made by Holden of FORD except the monocoque its self)

Woo hoo, the Veyron. I was very upset when I couldn't find it in the dealerships. Driving it in GT5 is the closest I'll ever get experiencing the awesomeness!

I won the Veyron. Shame it's not a premium car. It is definitely one ugly piece of work, though. :P

I haven't actually driven it yet, either.

I am also surprised at the lack of 'car porn' in this thread. Post some more pics! :D

Pics comming. Just need to find the time. Bought a Camero last night and it is very photogenic. I'll see If I can get some Pics up soon.

I agree the Veyron is a face only a mother could love, but the performace is mind blowing. Bring on the High Speed Ring!

Google the specs, there is some truly impressive numbers there. I heard some where that at 400Kph it will empty its fuel tank (80lts) in 6 minutes!

Irl it supposedly does, just like the tires will go in 8min at 400Kph.

I did an A spec expert race where there was a V8 supercar present, so there is one in the game.

It's probably the same Ford V8 Supercar that was in GT3 and 4.

If I recall correctly, it drives like a boat -- just like real life. :P

lol Yea the V8 supercars always were lacking in the downforce department. They tend to be a handfull, but I think thats a lot of the apeal. 700Hp and little or no downforce is a reciepe for tense raceing!

Oh and new Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Now even more mental!

1200Hp, 1500Nm torque, new top speed 431Kmph, and officaly the fasted car around the Top Gear Test Track EVER!!

Still ugly as sin, but at least they have embraced the fact with that colour scheme!? I wonder if the Super Sport version makes an appearance in GT5?

Damn they look bad. I wonder if their image has anything to do with aerodynamics to hit those speeds and still be stable.

I still haven't driven the Veyron that I won.

As for the V8 Supercars, they are hard to drive, yes -- but I think once you nail it, they can be a pretty fun car (I drove them a bit in iRacing -- probably the most realistic virtual representation of how they drive). MASSIVE pain in the ass to learn, though. I'll give it a whirl on GT5 if I come across it for a reasonable price (and have the money to buy said car).

I am mostly keeping my eye out for the Suzuki Escudo in the second-hand dealership at the moment.

That thing was a BEAST in GT2. Never got to try it in any other GT.

Also, ae86... what is your PSN? I will add you tonight.

Had some good racers join in last night. It was nice to drive with people who understand general racing etiquette. An accidental nudge or a bump is okay from time to time, but so many people just ram you, it can get pretty bad.

Last night was a refreshing change (after I booted a guy who deliberately rammed my side hard when we were driving alongside each other on a straight and ruined my whole race after turn 2 on lap 1 -- mechanical damage on strong).

Yeah that Suzuki Escudo is a beast, in GT4 i would put full downforce on the back wing and none on the front and go to the Test track then at top speed start popping monos down the straights. Fun in a race against other cars.

Oh, and the reason the Veyron looks the way it does is because VW head boss fell in love with that particular shape (a design that some wanker designer came up with as a salute to the early 20's Bugattis) early in the development process and then he flat out refused to let them change the look, just as he also stood firm on his demands that the engine produce over 1000Hp and the car be capable of 400kmph, while still having all the mod cons. Climate control, stereo, power seats, power windows, power mirrors, ect and still be quiet and comfortable to drive in every day city traffic ect.

Thats why the thing was in development for over 10yrs and cost VW about billions in RD to complete. It was never a money making exercise, the plan was always, "lets just to prove it can be done"

Is the Escudo in it? Holy fuck yeah Batman.

Yup. From the official Gran Turismo website: http://www.gran-turismo.com/local/jp/data1...carlist_en.html

"897 - Standard - Suzuki ESCUDO Dirt Trial Car '98"

I was looking for a Toyota GT-ONE Race car tonight, but it's not a premium car, sadly. I wish I didn't have to wait for standard cars to pop up in the second-hand dealership before I could buy them!

Guess I'll have to settle for the Mazda 787B Race car.

Now, to save 5 million dollars... *cries*
