Battlefield 3 Website is Live - Teaser Trailer Sneaks Out!

Recommended Posts

I hope the commander has a better interface to work with also one of the abilities for commanding should be able to create paratroop drop off points. It would save time for those who want to get into the thick off action instead of walking half way across the large maps. Would be more ideal for island maps.

I really do hope there is more of a level of customization not just for weaponry but uniform.

AND FINALLY...PLEASE EA LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF VOICE CHATTER.

Did anyone see any mention of LAN play in any of the articles?

To me no LAN= fucked up as LAN play is what often keeps a game alive and people buying it over a long period.

No LAN play seems to be the way most developers are going at the moment, people will happily pirate a game and never buy it if they can play with their friends via LAN and I think that is the problem.

That seems to be the general consensus, yet I have 4 or 5 friends who bought BF2 legit after playing LAN with pirated versions and the ones that kept using the pirated version for LANing would never have bought a legit version.

Same goes for Cod5. The ones that use the LANfix for offline LAN play would never have bought the game, but others who started with a pirated version have bought a legit copy simply because they wanted to play online as well.

they will have to put LAn in if they want to keep people playing, just look at BF2,people still play (and mod) it.

People don't play it because it has LAN though. Its not going to make or break the game, it will probably get more of a following if it has LAN, but it won't attribute to people playing in years to come or not, as you know...most people play it* online, apart from the odd tourney and lan event, obviously.

BF2 scaled the map depending on server size, plus playing 16v16 on a 64p map was fucking awesome, the console players will still have a fun time.

So I got thinking before re: DX10/11 only.

What about people with only DX9c video cards? they say oh everyone on XP can just update to win7 but you can't update something that is embedded technology in a graphics card.

Fuck em. Its like people asking for XP to be included in supported OS's.

Chances are a DX9 only gpu wouldn't handle it, I mean, what is the last DX9.0c based GPU that was released? The 7xxx nvidia cards and the X1xxx ATIs?

If people want to play cutting edge PC games, then they need to keep up with newer tech, its pretty simple. If Developers were still catering for DX7/8 only GPUs, you'd be complaining about that just as much as you complain about consoles holding the current PC games back.

I was looking to upgrade my 280gtx anyway this year.

And this looks like it will be the best reason to do it.

Yeah, good reason to upgrade my HD4870 to a HD6xxx card (or HD7xxx if it's even out by then?).

Haven't had any reasons to upgrade yet, everything still runs fine.

I'm quite disappointed in what you get in the special edition. I would have liked to get a model of that fast three man pole-frame mini-car thing from BF2 or similar. A few maps which probably won't get played because not enough people will have them? No thanks.

Also I don't care that BF3 won't have lan support. The number of players needed for a proper game of bf2 was huge. You really needed at least 40 people. You can't host a lan that big at home, and if you want to play with strangers, you might as well play online.

I know people did play bf2 lan with small numbers, but I never saw the point. As long as it has killer online multiplayer, I'll be happy.

To me no LAN= fucked up as LAN play is what often keeps a game alive and people buying it over a long period.

That there is the reason that LAN play is NOT being incorporated into games now. They dont want a game to have longevity. They want you to get your fix - buy the stream of DLC that they will inevitably bring out - and then go and play the next thing that is released. It is a console mentality. Play it once. Then move on. Welcome to the ADD generation. There is no profit to be made in a game having a long lifespan unless: a) you have a subscription model to play it and b) you bring out a constant stream of DLC (which we have seen PC players at least not be happy with).

I mean the irony is that EA have got DICE creating other titles (such as MOH) which are designed to compete with its own BF franchise. Longevity? Its about cash flow now. And at the same time we are seeing a corresponding decrease in the actual quality of games. Notice that by the time a released game is actually patched up and in a fit and playable state a new title comes out?

I doubt we will see a repeat of BF2's longevity. Hell people still play BF1942 and Desert Combat. EA will in fact do everything they can to ensure that BF3 does NOT have the longevity of BF2. I will lay money of them releasing a new Bad Company game within 6 months of BF3 being released. In any event it will be interesting.

having said that is it worth resurrecting [AC-DC]?

Longevity? Its about cash flow now.

Which I find a bit counter intuitive. After all if an old game is still selling then surely that is pure profit for the publisher as R&D has been paid off long ago.

Especially with digital distribution where the publisher does not have the cost of DVD creation and shipping.

Hell as far as I am aware they are still earning fees for those host who run ranked BF2 servers. got to be a good long term earner.

buy the stream of DLC that they will inevitably bring out

Got no real problem with pay for DLC so long as it does not come out every couple of weeks, is a reasonable price and actually adds significantly to the game

having said that is it worth resurrecting [AC-DC]?

Go for it, as I am now a member of Lost Division I will not be moving back to [AC-DC] for the foreseeable future.

You really needed at least 40 people.

No way. BF2 was heaps of fun with smaller teams too.

Maps are too big bro. You need enough people that the action keeps coming. When you only have 8 people playing, even on oilfields, one of the smallest maps, everyone resorts to sniping or using the chopper. 20 a side is minimum for any decent map (Karkand, Dalian, Jahalabad, Kubra, not Wake, not under any circumstances).

8v8 maps are tiny.

I found 32p on 64p maps to be some of the most fun I had though. Alot more freedom in the actions you can take.

But I understand that its your opinion and I'll respect that, if you want all your online FPS games to play like COD or CS:S then thats fine by me.

But I personally like smaller player bases on larger maps, really lets you work as a team rather than just the chaotic mess that is 64p.
