Upgrading to AthlonXP

Recommended Posts

After spending a good hour or so in the Man Cave

I found that running 5-9C didn't help at all.

I tried my other two chips and they were worse than this one.

The limit is 2640MHz on superpi 1m @240FSB

No voltage nor multi combos could get a successful pass at 2.7

Note: This is a desktop 2500+ 1.65v stock vcore, the early ones were unlocked, my Athlon I had all those years ago was an XP-M @1.45v stock vcore, they clock better on lower volts, so I have done well to beat my XP-M score using a desktop...

I'm in need of a new XP-M Barton, does anyone here have one stashed in a cupboard? I'd be happy to buy it

Thanks man!

I've done a shitty paint instruction showing the Vmod, incase someone is searching for NF7 mods on google one day and well, hopefully someone finds use for it.

It took me a while to find out how hah

the effort really has gone out of overclocking. I need to rediscover my love for it.

Hah thanks, I might look into some opteron Venus overclocking down the track, I have another radeon 9800 on the way with 256bit memory bus,

I may also have my hands on a mobile CPU, I'll know soon enough.

I like the trial and error with this socket, it's so much more interesting than sandy bridge for example.

I'm looking at a north bridge volt mod possibly too, I want more than 244 fsb haha!

I have a xp-m 2500+ that was gave to me in a dead mb that I forgot all about. I was looking for that old agp card but never found it, too much crap... I remember after seeing the mb that they said it was a mobile, but will need to remove the heatsink. You want it, just send your address in a pm and ill send it, but dont know if it is good or not! When I get home on friday I can check the stepping and ship for free.

I've got 2 GeForce MX's (an original MX, and an MX400), and used to have a Ti until it died. I'll go and have a look soonish, and probably take photo's of all the older gear I have around this era

I think someone here should make a thread dedicated to building and mucking about with older PC's :-)

Well the 9800xxl is totally different pcb to the 128bit 9800xt,

Also the xxl uses Hynix chips rather than Samsung on the previous
