What for? <$200 cards are pretty meh atm, slightly more and you'll get a 6870, although the 6850 isn't that bad and will flog the pants off the 7600gt. If its just a replacement for a dead 7600gt then something like the 5770 will be fine(hell, anything will be fine if its not for gaming), but if its for gaming, I'd look at stretching the extra $40 or to get a 6870.

I'd be looking at upping the budget and going for atleast a 6850 or 6870

With an e6750 anything over a 5770/gts450 will probably be severely bottle necked I think.

Good point, but I would never buy something using those rules

Depends if he is gonna upgrade any other parts of his PC later on

If that is the case, getting something "that his system can handle" is a waste, as it'll be the bottleneck

I'd be going for a GTX 460, as these are around the $200 mark nowadays

depends on the game and monitor a fair bit crisis perhaps but stalker not so much as it just seems really gpu heavy

Depends on the clock speed, but I'd be willing to be there wouldn't be too many games that would cause a cpu bottleneck and certainly not below a playable framerate anyway.

I don't have my e6750 with me (in my sisters desktop) otherwise I would test it out.

but as I have said to you on steam before, my GTX570 only performs at roughly 80% of what it is capable of due to my phenom II X4 being kinda shit.

toms cpu charts shows that the old core 2 cpu's still have some leggs left

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/60?vs=147

e6750 is just 5fps behind x6 1055t in falout 3 75fps vs 80fps

overclock it to ~3ghz and it will be fairly close to the speed of many current cpu's in games that dont want more than two cores

I'm hoping to buy a new monitor soon as my current LCD only goes up to 1600x900..

Was thinking something like this http://www.austin.net.au/ProductList/Produ...HD/Default.aspx

So whatever GFX I get will need to be able to play games at 1920x1080 =)

Edit: And yes I'm hoping to upgrade my cpu at some point in the near-ish future.

Getting a generation behind top end card cheap would be more than sufficient for a upgrade from a 7600GT

Depends if DX11 is your aim or not I guess

I run a 8600GT 1 gen higher than your card, god awful card, Plays all the current games (badly) but plays them. If I get solid 30fps I'm golden.

My crappy nVidia Quadro FX1700 aka 9500GT on the work PC is better than a 8600GT.

Get a GTX550 or GTX460 if you want to stay with the Green team.

Certainly some food for thought from Toms CPU comparison data.
