Atomic 3DMark & Game Benchmark Rankings

Recommended Posts

just flashed the cards to the latest evga gtx480 sc bios so they are now running the same stock clocks and i tweaked the bios a bit for a lower v at idle 0.925v and to allow setting the v up to 1.2v in afterburner for some benchmarking :)

no idea there is three revisions of the evga gtx480 sc bios and i think there was also two or three for the evga gtx480 but i couldnt find anything about changes made

real reason for doing it was to up the max v limit the rest is just a nice bonus especially since the cards still work :)

I've just got mine running on Auto at 4Ghz. Been running very stable, no problems. Low voltage and it drops back to under 1v at idle. I could have used the Dynamic voltage but i'm a little lazy.

I tried mine on Auto, but found that it was always kicking the voltage up to between 1.3-1.4, which was far too much for a 4ghz clock.

. I might get it done on monday and see if there is any form of digital prize i can offer for some incentive.

Maybe a steam game or something?

That's the plan. What i might do is find a nice sale and buy a package deal so i can have a 1,2 and 3rd prize :).

I've got one exam left, but i've been drafting some rules so it's not been forgotten :)

I might be a little late on posting my unigene score, but I just found this forum and thought I would share my results after reading through it. I'm just running a simple rig with an Intel core i7 920 @ 3.2GHz down-clocked due to increase in memory 24GB and 2x Sapphire HD5970 OC edition running at stock spec of 735MHz and 1010 on memory. I'm going to be changing out my motherboard and cpu soon to socket 2011 with the 3960X so I plan to overclock the HD5970's and see what they can really do compared to the newer cards on the market. Meanwhile I think they did pretty good for stock spec :P

Mind doing it with Tesselation on extreme?

I'm curious to see how the dual 5970s handle it compared to the current gen gpus which have proven to do tesselation better than the 5xxx cards. but with 4 gpus you might go okay.

hey guys,

thought it might be useful to throw up a few results for the 7970. not keen to push it too hard but didn't seem to struggle much with these. I'm not trying to submit twice, just including the stock runs for comparative purposes.

had a few issues with drivers crashing a lot but a reinstall seemed to fix that. don't recommend using driver cleaner (for 7970 maybe) as once i cleaned ati drivers my windows wouldn't boot up normally. had to go back to a restore point i made (lucky) but safe mode booted fine so that only took a few mins. this could be because i have fuck all windows updates installed.

Wow! Looks like there is some really serious performance gains to be had by overclocking the 7970. Particularly Heaven where the score is up 54% when overclocked compared to standard. Madness! Thanks for sharing p0is(+)n.

hmm yea your right that is madness, i ran it again and the result was quite different.. so I think something was up with the first run. Still a decent increase though.

I was quite surprised at that score myself until I saw the 2nd run.

be interesting to know how that score came to be

i have been comparing some 3dm11 results to my gtx480 sli and it seems 7970 can get fairly close in a lot of tests but the biggest gap is in the first test where 7970 oc gets ~45fps and gtx480 sli oc gets ~55fps the rest are ~60-75 fps and within 5 of eachother

oh i love it when old hardware tops new brings back memorys of my 9700np beating 9800xt and fx5950 or whatever they were

even if i am only in front due to newer drivers and smak may soon come back and break 8k

even so the gap should now be much smaller now that i have fixed that dam vsync hiccup

guess i can rerun a few more scores

Updated!

Wow that 7970 has some grunt in 3d11! Amazing !

Dasa, mad scores :/

Is that your highest 3d stable clock? I got 4600MHz 3d stable a little while ago, I'll do a session to update all my scores soon hopefully

Well done with those 460's Mods, still pretty capable cards.

both are identical had them awhile but never really overclocked then, wasn't a need. 1 managed to get some high clocks for stock cooling and volts, but in sli both didn't want to play ball at those speeds.

ive got a new mobo and plan to rebuild with full water cooling towards end of the year i might have another bash at higher clocks then. i would have liked to see a solid 5k frin 3dmark 11 but my currently mobo is half dead and wont let me clock past 4.7 atm.

thanks mate

at the current room temps i couldnt get it to do any better

highest clock speed have reached in sli was 933mhz but sometimes it will hard lock 3dm11 and other benches it can lock at a lower clock speed

extra v takes away artifacts but doesnt change the point at which the cards lock up and try to reset there clocks normally unsuccessfully

cpu can go higher if i go back to playing with the beta bios which may take a few dozen post attempts to get 5ghz and many of those failed attempts can be at only 4.6ghz as this first rev mb and the beta bios are really frigen twitchy and dont like me changing settings to much at any one time

for 24\7 stable speed it can run 850mhz with only 1088mv but to go higher the v goes up quickly but for something like the witcher 2 i like to ring every last drop out of it and they can still manage close to 900mhz fairly stable with ~1150mv

Yeah I hear you, I didn't get 11 to pass with the same Vcore settings as the 3 game tests I did at sli 900mhz w/ cpu@4600.

I find 11 is just a tempermental bitch with clocks, it's still not mature and I don't think we've figured out how it ticks yet.

I get the exact same symptoms as you, though I can play games at 810-820 core with stock vcore (1038mv on these I think)

first gtx480 stock v was 1068mv second the evga gtx480 sc with a whopping 25mhz stock oc ran 1113mv at stock

nuke has one or two with a fairly low v like yours though one may have even been lower

the only explanation for my odd heaven run is that i may have pressed f3 to turn off tessellation (the difference is huge) while warming up, and it didn't turn back on for the benchmark. I was sick of watching it by that stage so was just leaving it to run.

Nice updated scores Dasa, i've set myself a challenge to try and break 10k and maybe have a crack at topping smakme's score in 06. Wonder if my CPU will bench at 5.4.. haven't tried it that high.

Was also going to try a few different ram speeds. Right now im using 7-9-8-20 1T @ 1600 but I might try slightly looser timings at 1866/2133 and see how my scores change.

I run 8-9-8-24@2000 when benching, makes a nice difference, maybe the difference I need to play in the same sandpit as you guys
