Need to Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Im looking to upgrade my system soon. Cant play games at Full settings anymore :(

My current system is:

P35 Motherboard

4GB DDR3 1333MHz Ram

ATI 3870X2

750W OCZ PSU

E6600 @2.7GHz

Liquid cooled CPU

My question: What is the most cost effective way of going about an upgrade?

I haven't been keeping tabs on tech close enough to know what is compatible with what anymore. Obviously I think a new motherboard is on the table with crossfire capability so I can keep the 3870X2, i7 chip the best way to go? or in the interest of my pocket should I just get a larger 775 processor (they are really cheap now) and another GPU to tag on?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Was just looking on PC Case Gear and an AMD setup looks really cheap. How do they compare to Intel these days?

amd is soon to release its next gen which will hopefully catch up to intel

other than extra cores which arnt as useful as one might like in most games and higher ghz there similar speed to your e6600 clock for clock

i dont think you need a crossfire mb for the 3870x2 as it is a single card

depending on what games you play replacing the gpu may be one of the best things you can do

lower the res to 800x600 and see how the game runs as that will show how much the cpu is holding ou back

to buy right now i would look at 2500k ~$250 p68 mb ~$230

6950 2g $275 or maybe gtx570\580 $350-550 since they scale so well on water

I would definitely be looking at replacing the GPU before the CPU. in regards to the CPU i really do think that an i7 is overkill if your only going to be gaming. I have had a look around here and that doesn't seem to be what the majority of the forum thinks, forgivable really when you look at the name.

anyway a 6950/6970 or 560/580 would be awesome in your beast and i think you should DO IIITT!!!

I was thinking of crossfirring a new GPU with the existing 3870X2 if possible.

No, you can't crossfire a HD4XXX or HD5xxx or HD6xxx GPU with yours.
