First i5-750 overclock

Recommended Posts

Yeah, don't laugh. It's been literally years since I had a go at overclocking, and thought that I should finally pull my finger out (we're talking the age of running 200Mhz MMX cpus at 233 and 266MHz on TX boards).

I couldn't believe how easily the i5-750 overclocked. I'm using a Gigabyte P55A-UD3P, with Corsair XMS PC3-1600 ram with 8-8-8-24 timings and a Noctua NH-U12P for cooling.

I set everything based around the guide in Atomic 110, with BLCK of 190MHz, SPD at 8, CPU Vcore is at 1.34V, QPI/VTT at 1.37V, PCH Core at 1.14V, CPU PLL at 1.9V and DRAM is at 1.64V. [edit - forgot CPU is now at 3.8GHz]

Save the settings, and first boot, no problems.

Prime95 has been running happily for over 4 hours now, and according to core temp each of the cores is between 60c and 62c.

CPU-Z validation

So I'm pretty happy with the speed increase, but a couple of questions.

The RAM is rated at 8-8-8-24, but CPU-Z is reporting the timings of 9-9-9-24. Should I change the memory profile in the BIOS to use the XMS? Profile and hence the 8-8-8-24 timings? The system seems happy the way it is, so would it benefit in any way?
