Samsung Nexus Prime: 1.5GHz Dual Core/ 720p/Super AMOLED +/16GB Mem/1gb RAM

Recommended Posts

When I start feeling like that, I'll root my phone and OC it to 1.5GHz (apparently quite doable) and buy one of those new 2000mAh batteries, then all it needs is an ICS ROM and it's basically the same!

EDIT: A year ago I would never have thought I'd be saying this about a mobile phone :)

haha yeah, 1.5GHz dual core phones? You must be crazy, says 2009.

A friend of mine has a Nexus S.. the curved display is really cool.

What i'm not getting is why a company that is not apple delayed the launch of their new product supposedly out of respect for steve jobs's passing, while a company that IS apple is just going ahead and releasing a new phone.

What I'm not getting even more, is that a company that isn't Apple, that is being SUED by Apple, is postponing a launch due to the passing of the man who made them strong enough to be ABLE to sue them.

Because:

a) It isn't a launch, it's an announcement. The launch is in November.

b) Steve Jobs didn't sue them, Apple as a company did, and Steve as a person is highly respected at Google

c) It makes them look 'classy', whilst giving the impression that they're confident with what they're going to announce

d) It means the Nexus Galaxy release will be closer to the announcement

e) It allowed them to sidestep Steve's death and iPhone 4s sales coverage, thus giving them more media attention

Touche.

Although I didn't say Steve sued them, I said that he made the company strong enough to do so.

Either way, I'm excited for the new phone, and it could very well be my next phone purchase.

Another batch of rumour fun! This time from someone that follows me on G+, who appears to be a respected user of some Android forums. Claims he has a friend who works for Google and got to play with it. His take on the specs:

- LED notifications (:O)

- Made from plastic, but doesn't feel plasticy, possibly reinforced with metal

- 1900mAh battery

- When on-screen buttons are hidden, they can be restored by touching the phone bezel

- 1.5GHz TI OMAP4 processor

- Ultra smooth UI, probably GPU accelerated

- "thinner than iPhone 4s", but he didn't actually compare them side by side, so probably not

- Pretty much the other known specs, like 720p SAMOLED+ screen, 1GB RAM etc.

- 8MP camera

That's one thing that really shits me about the SGSII, no LED. I wanna know if I've got emails or sms' at a glance.

Still, encouraging! The announcement for the Prime is due tomorrow, iirc.

There is a notification app you can get that puts an icon the screen if you have notifications

Interesting specs (I'll update this post with more info as it comes up, doesn't include official specs I posted above):

Phone body

- HyperSkin backing (slip resistant backing, 'feels nice rather than plasticy')

- 4mm bezel on each side

Display:

- 100000:1 contrast ratio

- 0.01ms response time (wow)

Camera:

- Zero shutter lag

- Fast camera start up + quick one-click sharing to social networks

- Slide to zoom

- Inbuilt photo editor ("hipster filters" LOL)

- album is tiled (bit like WP7 tiles)

- sort by people, geotag in album

- very simple single-motion panorama mode

Video:

- 1080p

- continuous focus

- zoom whilst recording

- time lapse mode (nice!)

ICS:

- Drag apps on top of each other = insta-folders

- On-screen buttons hide dynamically

- Honeycomb style widgets

- Resizable widgets

- Task manager - flick to side to kill

- Notifications - flick to side to kill

- Realtime talk-to-text feature (nice!)

- Face recognition unlock! (lol, demo failed!)

- new 'action bar' design pattern for devs

- Swipe to change activity

Chrome browser:

- Tabbed browsing - flick to side to kill

- Bookmarks auto-synced to Chrome on Desktop

- Incognito mode

- 'saved pages' mode (to store pages for later retrieval)

GMail app:

- can search last 30 days of e-mail offline

Data usage:

- inbuilt data usage stats (can set warning levels and limits, can stop apps accessing data unless explicitly opened)

People app:

- replacement for 'contacts'

- photo grid style ("magazine style")

- "people cards" with all their details in a pretty page

- system-wide "contact cards" which allow quick access to peoples contact details (show up in apps like GMail)

Phone app:

- magazine style, again

- pretty voice mail page for playback (with fast forward mode for people that can't get to the point, LOL)

NFC sharing "Android Beam":

- touch phones together -> insta-sharing

- works in app, and sends other phone to the app download page - NICE
