WTB (Want to build) Storage/NAS Server

Recommended Posts

What sort of power supply would I need to power ~10 HDDs (and hopefully 15 in the future)?

That's the only bay converter I could find from Amazon that would ship (i.e. amazon seller). Would anyone know cheaper/elsewhere? I don't particularly like the color, but it's $30 cheaper per unit compared to the narco ss-500 from techbuy, and free shipping!

Ahh, crap, looks like they only got 1 left in stock @_@

For the case Im thinking of this one from Amazon (80 plus free shipping - 10 rebate = $70)

With 3xnarco ss-500 it looks like this

Or do you guys think this case is better?

How about the following (Second hand) for computer parts:

Ecs A740gm-m AM2+ board, fsb and ram v is only OC options.

AM3 AthlonII X2 240 2.8 / ran it at 3.3 with this combo, using it now at 3.5.

Corsair XMS2 2x1gb DDR2 6400

A guy's leading on OCAU for $60. If you guys think it's worth it, Ill go $70.

Thanks aliali. I am aware of SNT 3051, but they are freaking expensive haha, which is why i was looking at cheaper options from overseas/amazon. Cheapest one from AU is the narco ss-500. everything else too expensive >_<

Do you really need hotswap?

Yes, I'm really loving the hotswap feature :D

that's a list of the different 5-in-3 hot swap cages i found:

iStarUSA jAGE35R40

iStarUSA BPN-350SAS-RED

Chenbro SK33502T

Norco ss-500

SNT-3051

Icydock MB455SPF-B

Orico 6205SS

SUPERMICRO CSE-M35T-1B

Then why waste $100 each on the bay converters?

They come up at around $100 on ebay from an Aussie seller occasionally,

The SNT caddies use a 15mm slim fan which makes changing them out limited on selection.

I changed mine to these

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_p...oducts_id=13964

Not the greatest fan in the world, but much quieter and there isn't much choice in 80mm x 15mm fans

The SNT caddies also have a switch for Hi/Lo fan speed, but I found them to loud on the slow setting, I don't recall having to use a resister to change the speed of the CoolerMaster fan.

iCute 901s ($30 + post)

I have a 4-sata port pci card at home + hoping to get a Highpoint RAID 2300 (pci-e?).

If anyone can spot any of the 5-in-3 hot swap bays, please advise. that's the last item i need for the build

In the event I can't find any of the 5-in-3 cages, I'm thinking of getting the Xigmatek 4-in-3 (ximatek 4-in-3 in staticice will give links to umart) over the coolermaster solution. The xigmatek looks more sleek & pleasing on the eye.

But i would be keen on replacing the fan with something:

1) Quiet

2) No lights (transparent is fine, but no lights)

any suggestions?
