Can a 'VGA' connector do 2560x1440?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the reply. ATM I'm using a CRT monitor that can't do that resolution. I'm thinking of getting a new monitor that can. I want to know if I will need to use DVI or if I can use VGA to use the full resolution.

Depending on the video card it will be able to do that resolution but the image quality will be pretty bad.

I'd advise to use DVI, HDMI or display port if possible.

At that resolution, don't you need to start using Dual DVI ? Or is it just beyond 2560x1440 that dual DVI becomes mandatory ?

I think a lot of HDMI ports still don't handle big resolutions well?

You need dual link DVI.

I upgraded from a Dell Monitor capable of 1920 x 1080 to one that could handle 2560x1440. The new monitor wouldn't display correctly with the old DVI Cable, so I had to use the cable that came with the new monitor, which was DVI-D Dual.
