display lag with a Dell UltraSharp U2713HM

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd have a go at detecting display lag. When I used this method with my Sun Microsystems IPS monitor and my CRT monitor I could not detect a difference. This time I am comparing my Sun Microsystems IPS monitor with my Dell UltraSharp U2713HM. I set it up with the Sun monitor connected by VGA and the Dell by DVI, set it to duplicate (clone), ran a timer and took three photographs:

An apparent difference of ~33 ms.

I then changed the Dell monitor to game mode and took three photographs:

A bit closer. Perhaps more like ~15 ms.

I then changed to DisplayPort and took three photgraphs:

No detectable difference.

I installed the Dell driver and now there is no detectable difference with DVI as well as DisplayPort.

Cool, I am using a U2713hm right now, through DVI. What was the driver you used? just so I can make sure I am running the right one. :p

Makes sense... Cheers. :p

I had only installed the one from the CD included, but the one on the website looks newer.

What revision u2713 have you got by the way? revision and manufacturing date?

Any trouble with a blue tinge in the bottom right hand corner and an orange tinge in the bottom left?

Mine is Rev A00, manufactured in July. No problems.

It looks like DVI has less latency than VGA; I test it again with the Sun Microsystems monitor using DVI and the Sun Microsystems monitor is better in terms of lag.
