Windows 8 installation

Recommended Posts

Hi, am trying to install a Windows 8 Pro update on my Windows 7 machine.

I get a message telling me to "Change the folder or file name of C:\Users on drive C:."

I have tried unsuccessfully to rename Users. Am an administrator, have assigned myself as the owner and no joy.

I did change the user location to d drive using registry settings (as I have the SSD as my boot drive) is that a factor?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I would say if you change the location of Users via registry in Win7 then that'd possibly be the issue Win8 update is having.

Yes that was the problem. Changed the location and it installed.

Am getting strange "there is not enough memory to complete this operation" messages though when I am trying to copy my old user file (to back it up) before I try and reconnect it. Have set the page file 12GB and the total size of the user file is under 9 GB so that is strange.
