Connect monitor to laptop, now getting bad performance

Recommended Posts

So I have a HP DV6 Laptop with dedicated graphics and has a native res of 1920 x 1080. It plays my games (LoL and Guild Wars 2) perfectly.

I wanted more of a desktop feel so I bought a 23" LG 1920 x 1080 monitor, plugged it in via HDMI and now my FPS in games has dropped dramatically. I assumed since I'm using the same resolution that I wouldn't have any problems. Especially considering I have played on my 40" TV with no problems many times before, so I'm confused as to why using the monitor is giving me bad performance.

Any input would be appreciated.

Have you gone back to not using the monitor and getting the original performance?

Perhaps a memory bottle neck if you're outputting display to both monitors at once? What is the GPU?

We have a winner. Even though the lid was closed on the laptop, it was set to display on both monitors which was the bottleneck. Thanks :)
