Oz lotto

I know some of the Atomicans here have work in the Newsagents.

Just asking, do they get paid a % to sell the lottery tickets?

And yes, I will win a few million :-)

The shops that sell lotto, lotteries, scratchies and associated taxes on the gullible all get a commission - otherwise why bother dedicating near half the counter staff hours to doing so.

Given that the prize is something alike the price of half a used airline fleet, I might chuck the hat in... even though anything over $20 million practically always means 5-10 tickets will share 1st prize.

That's why you play Powerball, because the odds of hitting the jackpot are far lower than the regular lottery.

It means you don't have to share your winnings with anyone else! Huzza! You just need to overcome that 1/55Mil chance of winning, as opposed to the 1/8Mil applied to the regular Australian Lottery.

I bought $20 of games.

I subscribe to the theory that my odds of winning are slightly improved by buying a ticket.

" A lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math. "

I don't know the original attribution, but I think I got it from Larry Niven.

RLY.

People who are not bad at maths know that unlikely events do sometimes occur, and that their occurrence doesn't necessarily invalidate the existing model :P

Pretty sure we can now swing this into an atheist debate. It wouldn't be the green room if we did not.

Atheism is exactly the same as all the other religions.....

There.

One could also point out that there's no statistical correlation between religion (or lack thereof) and lottery winnings, this does suggest that there's no god.

I picked 3rd in the Melbourne Cup today, a small return. Might buy a lotto ticket to be in for the chance.

It is a lucky day. Or at least I want to believe it is!

You're ignoring a couple of factors.

1: How many people are praying that they will win?

2: Fairly sure most religions frown on gambling, so it's not surprising that God doesn't get involved.

I would prey, if I thought it would help me to win :)

I bought a ticket today, thanks to this thread.. didn't know there was 100 mill up for grabs. If I win, OP can have a cut.
