Atomic Paintball: The Battle For Flouncy's Undies.

Liquid Lunch with the staff upstairs at the pub around the corner.

But then I've been asleep the last few years it seems so I've missed a lot!

I seem to recall that was also the time some notorious green shooter drink was invented that became a staple at other Atomic events.

Nope. Ashton Mills and I invented that a a fair while before that. We were sitting around, trying to decide what to drink and I suggested vodka - chancellors famous jelly shots already becoming an atomic staple by then, and he suggested putting Midori with it for the green color.

Now you've got me trying to remember which meet it was... Star City? Maybe?

Ashton? Anyone else?

Atomic Shots.

I remember that and can narrow it down. I can remember it was a 2 story pub. Pool tables upstairs and Atomic grabbed the entire upstairs area. It was NOT M33t 1. I think it may have been M33t 2.

Zeddicus was a 'god' back then. I can remember this because I was crashing at his place. I think Big Brother was in it's first season because I can remember Zed's house-mates streaming it. Atomic Shots were developed and a tray came up and was passed around.

Hmmmm, you aren't thinking of Cheers bar are you? I think that was meet 2 or 3. No, definitely not meet 1 as I was too shy to go to that one. And it was after the first Xmas BBQ meet I organized.

Cheers bar sounds VERY familiar.

Meet 1 was at Fox Studios.

I can remember telling Ashton Mills an absolutely terrible joke about a man on a deserted island.

Speaking of memories. Who remembers Tom telling us about the jokes he played on his wife that were hilarious. (Like the wife coming home busting for the toilet, she reached through the hole in the gate to unlatch the gate and him grabbing her hand from where she couldn't see him)

Ahhh, found a very old post in the archives talking about it...

Our beloved new editor will never live down helping to create the atomic shot.

I suggest we drown him in his own invention... :P~ They are EVIL! Evil I tell you!

For anyone who doesn't know the history of the atomic shot, I *think* they were created at the infamous Sydney Casino meet. I remember it was where a large number of atomicans were sitting around getting quite plastered, although that could be any of... well.... a LOT of meets. A drink was required by Ashton and myself. Had to be a shot. Had to be green. Ashton suggested Midori. I came up with Vodka (in honor of Chancellor and a number of previous drunken meets containing vodka jelly shots mainly ;P).

The atomic shot was born. After I came back from the bar with two of them, facinated people watched our reactions and since we both didn't start rolling on the floor spitting and making throwing up noises, more were called for. And more. And then more.

At most meets it only takes a couple of hours before the people behind the bar are familiar with "atomic shots" and know how to pour them. That's when we have truly made the place our own. :P

Edit: yep. Definitely the star city meet. Wish I could get this link to work :(. The quote is a post by Demented Freak BTW.

Heh, so where do I start? How about here: http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/archives.asp?s...c=1&t=18040

That thread is the washup from the meet where Madeleine and I first met. A couple of observations about that thread: Madeleine admits groping the arses of Chancellor, ArcaneMagik and ChaosLady (not sure if she got me), she spend considerable time discussing the length of Arcane's penis and I went home covered in Chaos' makeup, not Madeleine's. It's also worth noting that that was the meet where the Atomic shot was first formulated by ChaosLady and Ashton. I don't know what moves I pulled that night other than showing my collection of drivers license photos (some with hair, some with no hair, some with blue hair), in fact I don't think I was actively flirting or anything, memory is a bit hazy due to the excess alcohol consumed.

And the reason he was covered with my makeup is not what you're thinking!

Oh.. So you didn't give him a makeover. YOU MUST HAVE BEEN *PASHING* HIM!

You know.. I realized tonight.... We haven't seen (And I can't remember her name exactly) _-M-_ for a long time.

She was awesome.

Those that know her, know who I mean.

Time for a new all-time #1 favourite Atomic memory: winning POTM!

I feel awfully bad I didn't get a chance to say 'thanks' to the *ods for choosing my post, and all the people who congratulated me after winning. I was very busy at work during that period and didn't have the luxury of time for things such as cruising Atomic forums, so I missed the announcement. Besides, it just never would have occurred to me that I'd be deserving of such an honour.

I've sent a PM to David expressing my gratitude, and if anyone else involved is reading this then you're definitely included, too.

I consider winning POTM as probably the highest achievement I could attain in this context. The sheer number of knowledgeable and capable people on these forums is amazing, and to be considered as one of the top contributors(even briefly) is something that makes me feel humbly proud.

hrrrm. I remember Nikey and his broken English. It was fantastic. (He spoke more languages than most people on this forum, so we can't knock his English that much). Was it Nikey2k? Something like that.

yep, nikey2k :o)

his shocking english always seemed to land him squarely into trouble - not realising that it wasn't so much his seemingly poor grasp of the language, but rather that he was so argumentative with it. i remember asking him once if he'd popped all the keys off his keyboard and stuck them back on again at random...

Some of my favourite times were sitting at the PC, late at night...the missus had gone to be and I'm polishing off a bottle of red, yucking it up with Jeff Spicoli & Takoma about films of the 80s and white rappers of the 90s.

Man...they were some good, good times.

Seriously, so many of my favourite moments on these forums can be directly attributed to one user: Jeff Spicoli.

He was a giant in my mind for many, many years. I hope he's happy and doing good things with himself.

Fuckin 'eh man, he was a massive and sorely missed presence in this place.

A wonderful soul, who ever he was.

That would have to be one of my fave memories. I masqueraded as an automated piece of script designed to welcome people to Atomic. What gave it that little extra edge, was the fact one of the Mods (Moz) was in on the gag with me and kept resetting my post count to zero so that I stayed a 'Serf', giving it that authentic system generated feel. Talk about the Wild West. That shit wouldn't fly these days :P Had some people outright fooled that there was an automated program able to intelligently converse with them on the forums. Fun.

Oh, and the apology too! http://archive.atomicmpc.com.au/forums.asp...lcomeBOT&u=

I would have liked to have created some kind of eloquent essay which captured the special decade of my life in which I was first and foremost an ''Atomican''. However, I find myself still trying to mentally parse it all. So here instead is a collection of the memories which floated to the top of mind when I first learned of the magazine's demise.

Meeting Ben.

Ignoring Takoma.

The Mandatory Sticky Thread at the Top of General Chat.

Alts including General Chat, Man of Few Words, and The Mod Squad.

Late night shennanigans in V1, repelling spam attacks, docking thread counts, deleting system errors and double posts.

Alt ranks days.

Wooting and Badgering.

My threads: alien confession; dramatic declaration of not leaving; Beijing bathtub; the many song parodies.

Customising a black balaclava with a green 'V'.

Raging 20 page debates, back when it seemed like winning a raging debate on the internet might change the world somehow.

The PMs I occasionally got from other Atomicans to tell me that my views on a subject had influenced theirs.

Making my 20,000th post in the thread of a new Atomican who had just made his first post.

The term, the idea and the spirit of the ''Atomicommunity''.

How honoured I felt to be awarded a POTM, then Superherodom, then a Custom Rank.

Being humbled to follow in Mael's footsteps as a moderator; then anguished when I eventually decided I should step down.

The sheer camaraderie of Tranquility Base.

The night I was set to meet the other mods, only to be hospitalised in the afternoon with a kidney stone.

Meeting Atomicans at Meets - without ever being able to tell them who I was.

The privilege of being invited to write the community column for the magazine, and the ensuing terror of monthly deadlines.

The Crusade Against Albert.

Posting Without Pants.

Jet-lagged nights in hotel rooms around the world, posting instead of sleeping.

Being right in the end about the evil of Xbox :-p

Being wrong in the end about Nikey.

Feeling bad that Taranthor would never accept my apology.

The Nuke Button.

Accidentally banning myself.

The great mates I made.

The young acquaintances we lost. While I knew them only as avatars and userids, I will never forget them, or stop wondering if I could have done more.

But most of all... the sense of honour, fulfillment and satisfaction I felt in contributing to the small team of dedicated amateurs, who dreamed of creating a special geek haven, in the earliest days of the internet, before anyone knew much about what an online community should or could be.

My fondest memories are when I first discovered this place when I finished high school back in 2001.

And certainly, when I rediscovered this place again when I rediscovered the place when moved to Brisbane and started making Atomic friends. Good peeps the likes of Raticcus, Usmell, and Myra. And getting to meet and get to know good folk like Elvanwhore, Dumbmonkey.

It all seems like an entire age ago.

I've made met some awesome people and made some awesome people because of this place. I owe it something because of that, it's something I try to keep in mind at all times. Perhaps that's why I post less, because I want to post more of myself, more quality. Sometimes, I just don't feel in the right place for that. But, at all times, I take responsibility and feel responsible for the direction this place heads. I'm only a small part of it, yes, but, I am a part of it. I either play a positive part, a negative part, or a nothing part.

Yay.. I'm playing with MrF's parts!

Still think catching up with you in Melbourne when I worked in Customs was definitely a highlight. (That Chinese Dumpling place was AWESOME!)
