How to start PC without using power button?

Recommended Posts

It looks like I fucked my PC so it won't start when I push the power button. It will start when I push an internal power button but I want to have my case closed, so how do I get my PC to boot without using the power button? My motherboard is an MSI Z77A-GD65 and the manual is here. I'm thinking in the "Wake Up Event Setup" section I make "Wake Up Event By" "[OS]" but where do I go from there?.

in the bios there are options to wake from or start from external input, such as keyboard. you can try those.

is the switch on the case fucked? hows the cables to the MoBo header? if they are file, custom switch may be good for you.

correct size hole and a returning toggle switch from an auto shop or electrical shop could be good for you.

You could potentially just set the BIOS to always resume with power on, and use the PSU switch on the back of the case?

Wake on LAN...

Whole bunch of easy tutorials out there for it.

Forward the port through your router

Grab an android / iOS Wake on lan app.

Profit

Wire the reset button to where the power button header is on the motherboard. Boom, fixed.

If your case doesn't have a reset, buy one on eBay. You can get premade cables.

In the mean time you could short the two pins where the power button is originally connected with something basic like a pen or screw driver.

There's already a button on the motherboard, he wants an external way to do it.

I was thinking that. My SFF case's power switch is busted, so I just use the reset button. Gotta get around to fixing that :-P

Yeah, if you have a reset button, use that. My partners K62 has a borked power button, so we just wired it to her reset switch instead.

reset button, to power button headers on the mobo.

look in "power on" option on the mobo for an "on keyboard"

Wake on lan, and make a wake on lan cable (simple as pie)

Always On after power loss, and switch off the power

buy a $20 cheapo case and transplant.

take your pick.
