PCA fail for product (monitor) reviews

Recommended Posts

So, I'm looking to buy a new monitor for a friend. No worries, head over to atomic and check out the reviews.

Wait, no atomic. No worries - head over to PCA for the reviews.

So I started looking down the list and grabbing roundups of anything that was reasonably priced and actually got a good review.

I got to page 7 and had managed to find *2* monitors that had been reviewed available. Just 2!

I plugged monitor model after monitor model into static ice only to get either no results or (for the 2 that did come up) one or two companies that I had never heard of selling them. And in one case, there was no stock available anyway.

GAH!

Now, I have done the same thing with atomic reviews a while back and could *usually* find at least a couple of places selling most of the reviewed products.

What's the deal? Why is none of the reviewed stuff available?

I seem to find it hard to find reviews for things like monitors in general anyway, seems they like to make a new model every other day...

See, this is where places like Harvey Norman are really useful. They have everything available on display and they didn't even mind when I plugged my ipad and notebook into a couple to see what it looked like. PLUS, there's no danger of coming across someone with actually product knowledge that's likely to influence your own opinion after close assessment of the products. And depending on the store, you could scrutinise to your hearts content without ever being bothered by anyone !

Pretty sure there are other places on the intertrons that do monitor reviews. Or you could, as has been mentioned, post a thread in the tech section!

Monitors are weird objects, review wise.

They tend to go end of life in a hurry, require specialist hardware to review, a good set of healthy eyes (I'm blue-green colourblind, for instance, so that's me out), and... yeah. Plus, since I guess you're referring to the site, yeah, a lot of those reviews will be old, and those models will no longer be available. Not much we can do there, and I'm not sure it's really our fail :)
