So, to anyone who still reads the site...

There's a rather... robust pop-up ad running at the moment. Just warning folks. Kind of out of my control.

I can't see it...

Anyone care to let me know what it is?

wow that ad is truly evil. Specially it's placement breaking up the flow of the writing on some articles.

*turns ad block back on for the main site*

i traded ads for an annoying yellow bar.

So, I'm not unhappy with the new ad.

Foiled with the strategic use of IE7.

Best way of making things not work :)

That does not surprise me one bit.

Gotta love autostart videos. Especially on a 3G connection. Note: I haven't tested that but generally that's considered bad karma (autoplay videos) esp from mobile users. Just saying, as someone who develops media and high volume sites :)

Haha! I didn't know that! I just right clicked it and went to adblock, then chose to block it, cool :P

*I* know that...

And it's not on the actual mobile version of the site, at least. Small mercies.

Although thanks for reminding me that there is a front page.

I've been just heading straight to the forums for a while now.

I can't see any ads on this site. Obviously not compatible with ipad. All I get is a prompt to install an app promising a better viewing experience, as well as ensuring I'm bombarded with annoying ads adapted for my device I'd imagine.

.... and people wonder why everyone uses ad blockers. Advertisers should realise that subtle, clever and interesting ads get far better results and more readers.

A lot of them do realise that... But unfortunately, all too often the people commissioning them don't - and won't have a bar of anything that's achieved without a blunt instrument.

Thanks for justifying NOT going to front page.

I normally come straight to forums with a once a month visit to front page. I'll steer clear for a month or 2.

Pass it on to the appropriate people that the ad is reducing hits and encouraging people to install ad-blocks because of the ad. (Remember that one about 2 - 3 years ago that looked like the top corner of the website was folded down and if you moused over it became obnoxious? THAT was a fun uproar. It was the first time I ever installed an ad-block)

You don't watch anything on Youtube, then? My browser tells me I need it every time I go there if it isn't installed. (Fortunately, I out a checkbox on my menu bar, and just turn it off when I'm anywhere else. Got 'em for Javascript and animated GIFs, too. Obnoxious flashing banners can just fuck right off.)
