50 mac minis

Recommended Posts

So we just got 50 2005 mac minis at CBNE. I haven't found any power cord yet. what should i use them for?

Ideas so far:

Giant folding PC

Case mod (i saw something like this on OCN)

Use to make a huge case

Make art/sculpture

Make baseball like sport because i hate apple

Burn them (possibly with a cult)

Sell on gumtree

Don't suppose you know what models of that year?

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_...-g4-models.html

Assuming they work and the price I would be interested in getting my hands on one or two. ;-)

/edit

For use at a volunteer run online access centre. If the price is low enough I would donate them to the OAC.

:-)

I would happily buy a few of those, Mac minis could run a few little projects of mine.

reserving two; maybe 3, if you do end up selling.

I really ned to 'learn mac' for my work. and I'd like one as a web server project :)

They'd make a really good media centre. I run a Mac mini at home and it just streams from my main PC. Running XBMC wouldn't take up much processing power, or storage for that matter

can they run the latest OSX?

They are PowerPC CPUs so no as I assume the newer versions are X86/X64 only.

Would be either 1.25 GHz or 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 (7447A) 1.33 GHz or 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4 (7447A)

Mac OS X 10.5.8 "Leopard" is the most recent supported MAC OS.

They are also IDE HDD only so forget about fitting a bigger SATA HDD.

If you want to play with the latest Mac OS without buying a newish mac then hackingtosh may suit you.

Put me down for two or three as my kids could have a building competition with them, I can strip them and they can put them back together, so I am down for three, maybe four depending on price.

Impossible doesn't really exist for the tinkerers of Atomic, and lack of chargers wouldn't bother me at all, the plan I have in mind calls for a custom power supply anyway.
