Windows 8 'Downgrade'

Recommended Posts

Just wondering whether it is possible to downgrade a Windows 8 installation from 'Enterprise' to 'Pro' without having to re-install?

Thats interesting. Ent would be from a corperate licence so i dont see any reason why you would need too.

Work laptop and unable to install anything?

back in the old days; kind of.....

You can change the key\licence used, but the edition would remain the same. its like 1\4 piracy? :P

with win 8 though; not something ive come up against yet.

Its normally a registry setting for what 'features' are unlocked. hence all the old XP\7 tools to "uprgrade to ultimate" for free.

Well I have actually managed to do it! I posted it in the Windows 8.1 thread I believe. I've successfully downgraded from Enterprise to Pro and it is working fine (needed a legitimate key).

I used an application called UpDown8 which allowed me to do it.
