3D movie recommendation?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just purchased a 2nd hand 27inch Samsung 3D monitor.

I currently have Avatar and the 3D (depth is pretty amazing).

Any recommendations of movies with good 3D effects?

Thanks for the recommendations.

I have read the 3D reviews for both Tron Legacy and Dredd and both seem really good.

Just ordered those 2, can't wait.

Yeah saw Tron at the movies, was actually really good.

I suppose most recent kids cartoons would be fine too.

Life of Pi made good use of 3D. Lots of space, visually lush, not overdone with 3D.

My favorite 3D effect is on kids movies, but WAYYYY toned down.

Most devices have a scale from 0-20, with 10 being default.

I like my kids movies on '1' It makes the characters take 'shape' and really shows the foreground vs background, without having annoying screen jumping\eye straining moments.

IF TV's can do the 3DS thing, at minimum setting, they'll be the next big thing.

I honestly dont think people want 'in room 3D' as its so very fake, but adding proper depth to a film changes it from looking at a flat screen, to looking through a window.

they can, but it's an issue of viewing angles, look at your 3DS from an angle that isn't straight on and you lose the 3D effect.

If you have it set to MINIMUM depth, the angle is pretty good.

No LCD, sure, but its acceptable for at least 70% of lounge rooms ive seen

Even then you've still got a viewing angle issue, it's not as bad, but it's still there. You've got to remember a TV screen is a whole lot bigger than a 3DS screen, so the viewing angles will scale out to be more noticeable.

Other way round dude. Getting outside of 25* on a small screen is much easier than 25* on a large screen. Its a physically bigger area you have to move out from.

The Hobbit I probably will have skip and as I don't like the movie overall.

The Avengers and Prometheus seems good. Might give that a go next.

The Hobbit and The Avengers are both awesome in 3D. Prometheus is also pretty sweet.

I just remembered I saw Avengers in 3D. I can't recall a single instance of any 3D effects, other than the dark picture caused by having to wear glasses. I recall that they tried shooting Avengers in 3D but it wasn't working out, so they just did a 3D conversion in post.

Thanks for the feedback. In that case, I might just get Prometheus for now only and give Avengers a miss. Wasn't a fan of the Marvel superheroes movies anyways.
