EB Games Expo 2013

Recommended Posts

It's that time of year again for the EB Games Expo; Having lived south of the border for the better part of a decade I've never attended, so I snapped up a 3 day pass and today will start road-tripping my way northward.

Takes place this weekend (October 4 - 6) - List of what's going on, shamelessly pinched from the website:

EB Exhibition: The Exhibition floor will be the heart of all the action, and the epicentre of the entire event. Featuring the game industry’s largest and most prolific publishers and brands, the EB Games Exhibition is open for each session’s total duration. With dark lighting, a pumping atmosphere, and a huge display of the biggest upcoming titles in gaming in Australia, the EB Games Exhibition will definitely be the place to be.

EB LIVE: Presented on a decked-out stage with impressive lighting and stage techniques, gaming developers and publishers will share stunning HD sneak peeks of gameplay, trailers and more for the latest upcoming blockbuster titles.

EB Community Hub: A dream of a gaming wonderland, packed to the brim with the best of gaming culture, free arcade games, a luscious field of super-comfy gaming Sacs, the best video game heroes and a chance to meet the industry's juggernauts.

EB MEGA STORE: A massive store full of every game on your wish list, heaps of Loot, flashy top-of-the-range accessories and plenty of room for gaming shenanigans but five times the size of your regular EB! In 2012 our EB Store was host to a stampede of gamers of all ages and tastes and was jam-packed to its edges. In 2013 we’ve taken this onboard and jacked-up the EB Store to be bigger and better, with even more space for your favourite games, Loot and more.

GOOD GAME: Join Good Game hosts Bajo and Hex as they take to the EB Arena stage for a live quiz show for gamers by gamers; a multiplayer showdown of gaming goodness, trivia and LOLS with some very special guests!

Home Grown Gaming: Home Grown Gaming is a massive space inside the EB EXPO exhibition hall dedicated to: Australia’s best Developers, eSports, leading specialist PC technology and gaming pop culture.

Sunday Family Day: Sunday 6th of October is EB EXPO Family Fun Day with plenty of exciting FREE activities for children and, of course, the gamer that is young at heart!

Sunday Video Game Parade: Come and join us on Family Day Sunday for Australia’s first Video Game parade, where you can get up close and personal with your favourite video game hero’s and personalities!

Insertion (Laser Skirmish): Insertion, the next level in real life first person shooter gaming. Be one of the first to experience the revolutionary new laser skirmish from epic gaming at the EB Action Stadium.

League of Legends: Get your friends together and head to the League of Legends Pavillion from midday on Saturday to watch the LIVE stream of the Season 3 Finals!

Pirate Ship Ride: Grab your friends and get onboard the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag themed Pirate Ride Ship!

Roll Play: We’ve got a large range of great games for all ages like Munchkin, Small World, Ticket to Ride and King of Tokyo, which are sure to keep even the fussiest punter entertained. The world of board games is a great, relaxing break from the video games we all love.

World of Tanks: Wargaming will be hosting the Tanks Asia Masters National Series Finals on the 2nd day of the EB Expo. The TanksAsia National Series is a nation-wide tournament to determine the best team who will represent their country to face off against the top 8 teams of TanksAsia Masters Season 2. In total, 16 of the best teams in Asia (8 country teams and top 8 Season 2 teams) will enter a battle royalé at the playoffs to oust the competition and secure a placing in the finals of TanksAsia Masters Season 2.

So who else is keen to attend? Maybe have a mini Atomic meet up? If not I'll be taking and posting plenty of happy snaps with my steroscopic 3D camera, anyhoo. ;D

Suppose I should also ask while at it; I'll be staying just north of the CBD in Chatswood, so between there and the city, can anyone recommend any good places for gut stuffing (breakfast / lunch / dinner)? Personal preference is towards Asia cuisine - Japanese (ranging anything from casual ramen noodles to sushi fine dining), Vietnamese, Korean Barbecue, traditional Chinese (no fried rice with sweet & sour pork rubbish). Not above bistro's or anywhere that makes good sweets, either.

Also, drinks! Any decent, quite(ish) piano / lounge bars around the city? Clubs and noisy pubs can **** right off. :)

Ghar is apparently doing a panel.

I didn't know it was this weekend, and since it's grand final weekend, I'm clearly not going.

You are in Chatswood. All that food you want is just outside your door. No entertainment or bars but.

Mamak! Malaysian, though. Otherwise, as Hlass says, you'd trip over the rest of the Asian cuisine quota being in Chatswood. Won't have to look too hard.

I would have loved to have got tickets, but it's too far for me and I don't know my way around Sydney.

Surely it can't be too far, if the likes of me is driving up from Melb - Staying overnight in Canberra though. :P

As for Chatswood I'm (vaguely) aware of restaurants in the area, though other than tomorrow night won't do me much good since most of my time will be spent in either Homebush or the CBD.

Aaaaand no, I'm out, I'm in Brisbane. And I'm working Saturday. And I forgot it, well, existed, really. But farm it out on FB - it would be a damn shame if you couldn't rustle up a Sydney meet at some point! It should be a bannable offense, failing to rally behind a meet in one's hometown :-p

I now have memories of Atomic Live, though, and tripping my way down every year and all the awesomeness that accompanied it :-)

Nearly my turn to get into the PS4 kiosk; laughing how I got singled out at the start of the Xbox One show, for my psychobilly get out - Presenter only got through his first sentence before having to stop and comment on how I looked like Elvis on steroids. :P
