IDE/PATA HDD bay?

Recommended Posts

I want a device that takes up a front 5.25" bay that enables the quick installation and removal of a PATA/IDE HDD without opening up the computer. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Problem with PATA/IDE is there is no hotswap unless you want to try some rather dodgy software.

As they are now hard to get I use an one of these

http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/ide-usb-adapter

Does IDE 2.5 and 3.5" and sata.

Or you could get something like http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-5-3-5-IDE-SAT...n-/330434175405

Ye they can be temperamental. Don't know about now but the old IDE one I have the HDD must be set to master on the jumpers for the drive to be recognised. Jumpers cannot be set to slave or cable select, it must be master.

Unit must also be powered off before inserting a drive or it won't be recognised.

If I were you, I'd chase down something like the early PATA/SATA converters and see if that on the back of a caddy system makes it more responsive.
