Morrison is free to speak and protesters are free to protest and police are free to prosecute any broken laws.  And?

i have zero time for spruikers, and i especially despise that chirpy breed of gladhand that loiters around the entrances of polling stations wearing their team colours.

i dont care whose team youre on.  if i havent sought eye contact with you, i am not interested.  save that shit-eating grin for someone else.  dont wave to me.   dont call out to me.   dont expect the slightest acknowledgement that you exist and breathe the same air i do.

i am not sure that ive ever seen a "how to vote" card in the flesh.  whoever needs one of these come polling day should probably forfeit their vote.

See Nich, I don't have a problem with any of the above and nor did my post relating to this particular egg incident. You brought it up, perhaps mid arvo boredom got to you ;) who the fuck knows ... but none of it goes to the unnecessary physical contact of the protester.

That's assault, plane and simple. But worse than that is that it's assault because one person didn't like what the other person was saying <<< to me, that's the really shit bit about it ... that's saying  " I'll hurt you if I don't like what you think "  <<< how fucked up is that ??

Talk about ditto !!

When we were down in the big smoke the other day, we happened to walk along the footpath designated for these spruikers ( due to early voting ). Well I took a bit of verbal offence at them trying to get my attention, whilst Walt is trying to chill the situ out . LOL

I'm saying stuff like " it's not the 18th alreay leave me alone ! ffs "

And not being aware that they would be there a second day I walked through them again ... This time though, I just pushed my arms out like walking through a dense forest  ... and one of the spruikers had the nerve to be offended by my gesture ... only one but. I think the others remembered me from previous day. Hahaha

i have my how to vote instructions posted in the back window of the car - "remember, number every box, just put tony last"

and when i came out of aldi this afternoon, someone had plastered a zali and shorten sticker to cover it .... but luckily it peeled off easily, and mine was inside the glass

Reckon I'll be wearing my UNFUCK THE WORLD shirt to the polling station.

When anyone but a Green comes up to me, I'll just look at them like they're an idiot and point to the shirt.

I think maybe it was a Revenge of the Nerds kinda vibe, tweaked with that whole 'uncertain quantity of irony' meta angle discovered by this century's hipsters.

six more sleeps, the clock is ticking
who will govern ? who will go ?
the campaign drags as punters think
it's time, but jeez, it's moving slow

roosters turn to feather dusters
eggs are broken, - lo, and then
local liberals see the lite
and drought befalls the reigning men

politics like climate changing
terminates the dinosaurs
something new to fill the vacuum
cure the symptoms, treat the cause

I guess it won't be so bad having a Labor Gov. I mean it's not like they will do all they say now is it ? It won't be pretty to see all their support cringe and cry in shame when stuff inevitably slides   ... I mean that's the Shorten way.

...naa it will be no fun,  he's no Gough by a long shot

I guess we may see. What you do as prime minister is different to what you do as opposition leader. But yeah, what political party gets into half of what they promised they'd do?

Having a brief gander at the news sites today I saw a pic of Shorten being almost mobbed by school people and another of Howard with a snowy white hedge running from ear to ear and doing his best serious face with Abbott at his side lookin' a tad diabolical tbh

The sites wan't a Labor Gov. that much was easy to tell ;)

Heh,

Until this evening I'd managed to stay well away from commercial tv and thus avoided the majority of the ads.

But tonight I crossed over to catch the news on something, 9 probably, and a report comes up that Clive Palmer is taking a break in Fiji followed by one of his ads, spruiking NUCLEAR POWER as the way to solve unemployment in Elizabeth...

Elizabeth lost its car manufacturing long ago and has become pretty much a  dead zone in the north of Adelaide. Hardly going to be fixed by the relatively small number of people a nuke plant would ever employ.

I guess he knows he has no chance so he might as well say and do whatever he likes but geez, nuclear... I really thought we were done with that debate unless it were thorium...

i'm going back to Stan, that brief dip with the dipshit has finished me for any more political bullshit.

Cheers

Did the ad explicitly say it wasn't going to be Thorium?  Did it explicitly state it wasn't going to include reprocessing centres?

Nope, just said nuclear, repeatedly.

However given the demographic he is appealing to just how many of them do you think would even vaguely be aware of thorium cycle ?

Reprocessing was also not mentioned but it played out against stock footage of a traditional reactor so the implication was absolute.

S.A. is in a rather bemusing situation with the nuclear debate having Olympic Dam within its borders and Maralinga likewise.

The Nuclear-Free state movement pretty much began or at least achieved high popularity here if I recall.

Methinks Palmer made quite an error in even bringing it up particularly in S.A.

I don't regard nuclear as the bogeman that some do but I would not want a lunatic like Palmer anywhere near even a reawakening of the debate. It's difficult, but probably not impossible to make nuclear truly safe and appears decidedly easier going down the thorium route once proven. Not even that addresses the ultimate disposal of an EoL plant though.

Nuclear has had that problem from the get-go, rushed in with no concern over the long term implications.

Cheers

🙂

As Cybes remarked in a different thread the trouble with fusion is that it is always "10yearsaway."

I don't think we really can wait on that dream but I'm not inclined to toss out the baby with the bath water either.

Thorium is worth exploring, coal is closing down in Australia, very marked in S.A. but there is a lot of rearguard action going on. Which is despicable, coal is just not tomorrow's fuel but there are of course complications driven completely by the nature of short-term politics.

It needs to be admitted though that coal did quite literally fuel the ability of the human race to paint itself into the debacle that it is now in.

How we get out of it, dunno yet, but it hardly helps to have the Trump-twit attempting to ridicule wind power, apparently because it obstructs his view on his Scotland golf course that he ripped off of someone. Whatever, just add it to the delusional pile.

It is beyond time that the human race seriously thought outside of the box and came up with new sustainable solutions not ongoing argument over which outcome is the better of a bad batch.

No party in Australia has any vision beyond the end of their nose and winning the next election which with a no-confidence capability if balanced on a knife edge is at least not as bad as the U.S. but it isn't good.

It's getting to be a race to see who can tear the place apart fastest and by the place I mean the world, it's a lot smaller than it was.

Cheers
