You mean where Tim Flannery was talking about dams? Where he was saying Perth would be in trouble by 2064 and Sydney would lose about 25% of rainfall by 2050 and that a worst case scenario would be extreme conditions lasting another 2 years but not that that was the likely scenario? The quotes that guys like Andrew Bolt then selectively quite so they don't include a time scale so they make them sounds outlandish and ridiculous? Are they what you are talking about?

So is the problem poor memories or selective quoting?

Probably both to be honest.

This is a climate denial blog but the quotes are absolutely 100% all Flannery.

https://climatism.blog/2018/03/12/tim-flannery-professor-of-dud-predictions-and-climate-falsehoods/

His record of predictions is the reason why so many disbelieve climate change.

That top one is exactly the one I'm talking about above. He's talking 50 years down the track from when he said it and people are taking the audio bites out of context.

He says future and people rubbish him for it not meaning tomorrow. I guess that's what happens when you mostly listen to politicians with no vision beyond the 3 year election cycle.

I'm not saying that everything will pan out as he says. I haven't even looked through every quote there. But I'd say people deliberately misrepresenting what Tim Flannery says is more of the issue than what Tim Flannery says from what I've seen.

Imagine if you will, a society that thinks the planet's temperature can be controlled by giving money to the United Nations.

Read the blog. The number of already confirmed dud predictions should make you pause before listening to a 50yr projection.

He said “in 5 years” in 2008.

Even accounting for the building industry’s concept of time, he’s still a little wrong

Well,

All reports do say the northern polar cap is shrinking year on year but it still freezes every winter.

The big question seems to be are we entering another ice-age but our interference in climate is holding it back ?

No idea - the dataset simply is not large enough to speculate but plenty of people will.

Cheers

The only near time predictions were not predictions but worst case scenarios. I might as well yell at my insurance company for making me pay premiums I never had to use.

I think I'll leave my answer to that sleight of hand attempt to justify Flannery's prophecies to "The Conversation":

“How is it that Tim Flannery could have got it so spectacularly wrong?"

You do realise that article is, yet again, banging on about the same quotes taken out of the same context. Find me 5 more an they will still be saying the same thing about the same piece of misinformation.

edit: Again, I'm not saying he is going to be right or wrong with the predictions, but he has made either long reaching predictions or given worst case scenarios in shorter terms but not said that those events will come to pass. It's, in a way, like how you aren't really a Trump supporter but like to have a go at people who get his characterisation all wrong in your opinion.

Wouldn’t be much of a discussion given it’s always the latter.

You’d probably get more mileage discussing the racial sensitivity training of Nazis.

Just thought that might be germane.

Now if only NASA were to get as much oxygen as a certain scientist who can’t predict anything for shit...

The problem is NASA doesn’t do doom and apocalyptic gloom sound bites for retreat so the press don’t publish.

NASA is using data back to 1880...............data that our own BOM has tossed out so they can claim new high temperature records.

Don’t argue with me. Agree with me and that way you’ll be right based on all known and available facts 🙂

It's so crap that Barnaby Joyce doesn't want it interfering in his life.

that rates as one of the strangest little pieces of film I've seen in a while ... he really needs to protect his head with a hat . Where the fuck is his Akubra ?  He looks like he is more than a bit worse off than heat stroke

I prefer this one. It’s from the moment in the State of the Union where Trump says “America will never be a socialist country”

Okay, it's wrong to blame the Gov. for these fires. Any Gov. of the day could not be blamed for the fires. That's a given.

However I blame Scummo for his lack of priorities from the get -go with regard to his total mishandling to date ... he freely admits in one of the vids linked above that the fires started in September. This is Australia, the place he was born in and made PM of.

It yearly has a fire season. SO WTF is he even thinking to organise a Xmas holiday out of country for his family ??????

And even now he has no real clue as to how to be  :\

ever since the rudd-gillard-rudd shenanigans, anyone who has become pm acts like a feral creature in the headlights awaiting being roadkill

everyone wants the gig, but they are like dogs that catch up to car they bark at - once they get to their prize, they haven't got a clue what to do about it

i don't think it's coincidence that this seems to be the generational approach of liberals

labor are a different problem; their plans aren't necessarily great, but at least they have some to work with
