everyone wants the gig, but they are like dogs that catch up to car they bark at - once they get to their prize, they haven't got a clue what to do about it

yes. And this one still doesn't think he won the day fairly or even deserves to be there ... although now his conscious wants him to believe he's deserving ... lol it's pathetic

i don't think it's coincidence that this seems to be the generational approach of liberals

I think it's the generational approach of pollies going for the job for quite the wrong reasons ... and the ones that do go in for the job for the right reasons, the general populace wouldn't stand for them being PM  ... thinking of Jacqui Lambie

labor are a different problem; their plans aren't necessarily great, but at least they have some to work with

what plans do they have ? I've always backed Albanese in the past, but ( my present loathing of a party I once very much favoured aside ) these days he seems pretty ineffectual just now. I mean talking about climate change right this moment is not

gonna put more boats to Mallacoota  now is it ? I mean, what is it with the Navy ? Why can only one boat go to the township ?? Doesn't the Gov. realise the fucken brownie points it could win for a life time if it could just get in and swoop up all those people left on the beach ???

ffs  ... and that's only one instance where help is direly needed .Too fucken busy counting our pennies at the wrong fucking time. ..imo

sorry for rant attached to your reply scruffy1, but sheeesh

the boat at mallacoota is removing everyone that wants to leave

problem presently is that unless scummo has a direct line to the almighty, the fires are sure to burn for any more weeks, and every one of them will be a p.r. disaster for the man who attempted to grab a pregnant woman's had when she wasn't offering it, and ran away when she pointed out what the current requirements are for being helpful - more resources for the rfs... and now

his scuttling back to the car with the minders will haunt him for all time as a publicity fail - the locals were quite right to call him out on his obvious reason for being there - to get a photo opportunity, which backfired

it's his equivalent of when toned abs stood there vibrating after being called on his "shit happens" episode

American singer Bette Midler pulled no punches as she lashed out at Mr Morrison early this morning in an extraordinary tweet that has already generated more than 19,000 likes and 5000 retweets.

“Pity the poor #Australians, their country ablaze, and their rotten @ScottMorrisonMP saying, “This is not the time to talk about Climate Change. We have to grow our economy. What an idiot. What good is an economy in an uninhabitable country? Lead, you f...wit!!”

fuck talking about climate change; it's now about him not being able to set the agenda having failed to even interact with people warning him this was coming, and being set up to have nowhere to run when the crisis eventually recedes, and he can't deny that "the right moment" will never occur for him to talk about it, because he's a gormless and mute store mannequin for the liberal brand when reality needs an airing

thoughts and prayers ?   well, maybe he can do prayers, but that's his full repertoire

Labor have become the same scum that the left leaning "majority parties" have become in the US and UK.

Rather than presenting a viable alternative, just appeal to every fringe group out there in the hope that their united front gets them over 50% of the population.

And that's one of the main reasons they're sitting in opposition in all 3 countries and are likely to stay that way.

Well, I read in several updates today, that the boat was only taking 500 in the first go, and may not board them till tomorrow morning ... granted that was several hours ago, so who knows what's changed since then.

I couldn't give a flying fuck what Bette Middler has to say  on twitter or anywhere else . Right now it's time to talk about proper planning for all those who insist on a tree change . Right now it's time to talk about major jail time for fucking arsonists and fools who don't obey the rules re back yard incinerators and burn offs etc.etc. etc. on total fire ban days.

But yeah Scummo looked and behaved like the dickwad he apparently really is wrt to that lady and the exhausted firey not wanting to shake his hand.

He shouldn't have offered his hand in either scenario tbh. He shoulda just stood there and taken their emotional onslaught  ... and then gone away and made sure shit was being organised where possible, and kept his mouth closed, as far as any further interviews were concerned.

since the relentless onset of the 24/7 news cycle it's inevitably poor politics to go to the voters with policies advertised, because anyone in australia that has been through enough elections will recognise people vote against things, not for them

so heaping shit on your opponents in puerile ads rather than expressing any plans for what you'd do in government is a clear winner - far too many of the voting public have an attention span that can't last beyond an episode of the bachelorette

that's why the ad man got up - although shorten (and to my mind the smarmy wayne swan) were very unattractive even before they opened their mouths

but scummo's superpower was being invisible when it suited, which unfortunately for him doesn't work at all when he needs to be not only visible, but articulate and empathic... which means in the current unavoidable spotlight, he's truly up shit creek, because australians shine when they need to tell tossers to get fucked, and he's so embarrassingly insincere that even the senior nsw liberals are looking believable by comparison

No Shorten would've been waaaay worse than the clap .

Morrison knows he's ineffectual right now ... He doesn't seem to know that there's no making up for going on holiday whilst the country your Gov. presides over is going up in flames, none at all. he had by his own admission, three months to realise that leaving for a holiday was a very very poor choice to make. He should lay low in the media and just make sure the amenities needed at this time are there for those fighting and fleeing these fires. The end of school holidays is approaching, he needs to be making sure schools and child care centres are up and running. The kids have to be occupied whilst the parents rebuild or whatever . Make sure communications are up, power and all the rest of it,

ffs. That's the last thing people want . It's already painfully clear that he just doesn't get it. If he did get it, he would've changed his travel plans and not even left.

Make yourself bloody useful Morrison and stay the fuck away from the media.

America is already a socialist country - just not for the plebs.  It is for corporations and mega-wealthy, though; the govt fall over themselves to help that demographic out, whatever the trouble - even if it's self-inflicted.

America is one of the least interfering governments into business.

Don’t mistake what happened in 2008 for the norm.

Heh.

That is arguable on so many levels that I could be here all day Leo.

On the one hand you have a monopolies commission, that seems in the end remarkably toothless - decades ago it broke up AT&T but like a super-metal Terminator the shards have gradually reamalgamated, on the other a Government that bails out Detroit, not once, several times.

The monopolies act failed to curb Microsoft despite a huge court case but the point is that it was there. The military industrial complex seems to define what and where wars these days and despite a ridiculously large Government debt is still cranking out massive arms orders.

In America the Government reaches into just about all aspects of daily life in ways so devious that many do not even notice, in fact even the instruments of that intrusion do not take much notice, they regard it as the norm.

Cheers

They manipulate the situation to favour their own businesses.

Insist on FTAs with other countries and give their own farmers subsidies on top of the fact they already pay next to nothing in fuel taxes.

if there's one thing advertising people can't do, it's staying away from the media

the self-evident inability to throw shit at someone else for current problems has removed his only game plan

add : to the posters above, please talk about america's shit government in a new thread; this one is to pour vitriol on our "own" representatives

some one said that he should have sent generators instead of himself. Now, if anything were to win him favour then that idea is the only one. Instead of wasting time and fuel on carting him to people with more urgent things to do, he should have tied xmas bows around several dozens of generators and had his PR team drop them into everywhere they're needed.

Totally agree scruffy, this thread has frequently strayed far from its original intent.

what ? you don't think the greenies /conservationists have played their cards at each election ?  Seriously narrow focus you have, if that is the case.

edit : to my knowledge, greenies /conservationists have had a pretty strong say on the way the bush and National Parks are looked after for decades now ...

The more we move out for the tree change, and well generally the more people who inhabit this country, the more prone to the terror of the yearly bushfires.

it was much easier to ignore them when they only affected a few graziers .

edit : now most States have far flung farms and hippy / new age types and vineyards and whatever else in areas where before was just bush that nobody really cried over cos no one lived there but the creatures etc.

And these people think they know best how to live in the bush cos that's where they choose to live ...ffs

...was talking with a young very pregnant woman pushing her toddler. She and her husband have a farm somewhere in NSW. They figured they'd probably lose the house and shed which apparently is full of uninsured machinery and tools etc.

This property was not their main residence so her concern was the amount of money that they would lose .... and the family was up here havin' a holiday instead lookin' out for the property in need of lookin out for 😕

The Greens oppose everything............including hazard reduction burning.

They won't be happy until we are living in caves..................then again, I don't think they'll even be happy then!

Yet more forestry/RWNJ propaganda and outright lies.

Here's a good starter for you

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/nov/12/is-there-really-a-green-conspiracy-to-stop-bushfire-hazard-reduction

Quote

A former NSW fire and rescue commissioner, Greg Mullins, has written this week that the hotter and drier conditions, and the higher fire danger ratings, were preventing agencies from carrying out prescribed burning.

He said: “Blaming ‘greenies’ for stopping these important measures is a familiar, populist, but basically untrue claim.”

But of course that won't stop you believing all the bullshit the LNP spin machine pumps out, especially if it slags off the Greens or similar.

A few years ago I heard a person could be prosecuted for picking up dead wood . I thought that was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever heard.

Most of the bad fires are in National Parks and State Forests.  Both areas where there's minimalist intervention.

Obviously that plan isn't working.

There was a bloke earlier on TV who stated the obvious main cause:  There's a huge fuel load just ready to go up.

I've driven through most of the affected areas in the last year from Lakes Entrance Vic through Coffs Harbour NSW.

Two things in common for almost the entire route - lots of dense forest and successive seasons with reduced rainfall.

It's the same in the Adelaide Hills, they are far more conscious of the issues than they were but a combination of limited preventative burn times and a prolonged drought make it extremely difficult.
