  1. 1. Which service do you use for cloud storage?

    • Google Drive
    • DropBox
    • OneDrive
    • Amazon
    • Something else
    • I don't use storage in the cloud

With cloud storage becoming more and more popular, I thought it would be interesting to see whether any of you here use a cloud drive as your main storage for your computers and phones to access. Eg, basically storing all your personal data (music/photos etc) on a cloud drive.

If so, which one do you use, and how come you use that one? Do you pay for it?

I keep all my data on a local file server available to the whole family. I do however back it up to cloud storage. I use JottaCloud.com.

Every night i run a job which takes each (new or changed) individual file and encrypts it, then transfers it to another disk. That disk is then backed up to JottaCloud.com. The downside with that is that I waste disk space by having a separate disk with an encrypted copy of my files.

For "Available Cloud storage" i use OwnCloud which i host at home :).

I have Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive accounts. All with things on them.

I mainly use OneDrive now, but Dropbox has some stuff on it that I use occasionally.

Also I have a Windows Home Server that, when I get it up and running again, provides some remotely accessible storage.

Do any of you use the paid services for any of them? Or just the free services?

Just the free stuff for me. I don't really use it that often.

Just the free services.

I'd maybe consider something like a cheap Drive plan once I move to the US and don't have to worry about quotas, but between the three providers I have most of what I want backed up, backed up.

I use DropBox by default, as I run an not-for-profit organisation, and all my Uni study materials.

I have DropBox access on all my devices, and sync with SyncToy on my laptops.

Just the free version of dropbox, it's getting a little full now but as I use it mostly for syncing small files between my desktop and laptop now I don't see any reason to upgrade.

I was looking at DropBox and their 1TB for $10 a month. It would be rather handy to just operate out of that folder and it will backup/sync my data across all devices.

I'd be able to store pics and music as well.

I don't use clod storage for any of my stuff - Currently I don't have the net connection to support it on a large scale, but even when I have had it, I don't because basically I don't trust them - I take responsibility for my data and I don't delegate my requirements for availability, backup or security.

Generally I find it a pain when other people do and then share it.

If you want to email me a public dropbox or googledrive link, go for it, obfuscate/hash the URL to your hearts content, and once I've downloaded it I'll let you know and you can remove it from the site.

Zip it up with a password if you want - I don't care.

But don't lock it down to 'shared members' and expect me to have an account and supply my email address on every damn clod service you chose use.

Mmm... Thinking about it, even though I don't intentionally use cloud services for the cloud benefits, it's pretty hard NOT to use at least a couple. Your eMail: if it's gmail or Hotmail, it counts. I have a few pictures at imgur, and plenty of people have Photobucket and the like. And then there's here - even though it's not 'storage' in the sense of being able to keep your database on it, it does keep it's own to which we all contribute text and images. If you play games you're probably using at least one - Steam almost certainly.

The original post was intended for cloud 'drives' such as Google Drive etc.

I 'got' that - which is why I voted 'none. I just reflected on the question a bit further, and came to the conclusion that I couldn't honestly say I didn't use any at all - just none intentionally.

Do you see a difference between a cloud storage host, Cybes, and other online filehosting, eg ftp, www?

Really, only one of scale - not fundament.

SO are clouds safe to use?

Can i use one to back up all my Porn collection on ,and my Legal stuff without anyone else viewing it. I think in USA their is a law that allows certain individuals to look at Cloud Content under the law.

If you encrypt everything you send up there then no one will be able to see. With that being said. Why would you pay to store porn in the cloud?
