Finally joined the club after not quite being able to on my i7 950 that stopped at 4.8

Quite proud of myself this evening, even if it only ran for 2 x 1m SuperPi runs :P Temps at idle were pretty good and it only locked up after trying 1m for a third time. Idle was sitting at about 39-43C across all cores. 1.400 VCore and 1.330 VCache

Corsair H105 with Performance Edition SP120's in push and Performance Edition AF120's in pull. 3 x Quiet Edition AF140's on LNA's for exhaust from the case.

This was a BIOS overclock too. POST and Boot to Windows 7. Pretty sure I could get it stable if I dropped the RAM from 2400MHz to something much less stressful for the memory controller. No BSOD, just a hard lockup after about 10 mins.

you're 0.2mhz off :P

also, how much does it take to get stable long term? Temps anywhere near safety shut off at load?

1.2 actually, gotta love those FSB fluctuations. I figured that 100 x50 is pretty much being there :P

Temps were completely fine for the time it ran - idle in the high 30's so somewhat like a minor OC on air. Haven't retried again yet as I've been busy getting my PC gaming master race on after 8 months with only a console for company.

I am pretty sure it will run for longer than 10 mins if I drop the RAM from 2400 to 2133 or even 1866. I saved the settings in the BIOS so I can re-attempt at any time >:D

Oh, and even though it's a given, Hyper Threading was indeed turned off past 4.9 (boots and runs stable at 4.9 with HT, I think this is the 3rd time in a row I have won the silicon lottery)

I always thought 5ghz was easy for 4790K's seeing as they turbo up to 4.4ghz...

Really keen to see how a 5ghz 4790K go against an FX9590.

my 24/7 OC is 4.7, could do a direct comparison if I had a 9590 :P
