Not much to be done about it, but we'll keep hosting this place until the last Atomican leaves.

Wow that sounds so sad.

<shrug> Still have no plans to leave. But, I didn't when I left previous favoured haunts, either - it's one of those things that 'just happens'.

Who really knows?

I'm sure that it's not just one thing but a multitude of factors as has been pointed out. For me three of the main factors in no particular order would be lack of change/modernization of the platform, reduction of mag integration/writer participation over time and the polarized user base making it difficult for new users.

These and the increase of cute cat videos on the net.

I'll be here till I draw my last shakey breath.

Even when it implodes, I'll be sitting on my chair next to the hole that once was At0mic, welcoming people to my beloved hole in the ground, and telling stories of how it once was a thriving metropolis.

All this talk of holes makes me think of something by TomSka, and ironically, yep, that'll be me.

Can't quite remember when I joined... but I always somehow still come back... and post in these threads...it's becoming a recurring theme to just be posting in threads about people posting :P

And just having the forums online is enough for me to return.

Ive only just come back to the forum a little while back. I loved this place and TBH it kinda gave me the warm fuzzies coming back after such a long hiatus. This place taught me heaps when I was just getting into the IT industry.

what happened to this forum?

its like dead

We were closed on the day you checked in to clean and stuff.

Back to normal now.

Heh - I now fit into all those old V1 t-shirts I had and couldn't wear. :)

Well done!

I now fit into fuck all :(

Thanks hulks. I'm now minus 70kgs and counting. Almost half my body weight gone. Doing MMA when I can to continue the fitness in the right direction.

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed you had a spare 70 to lose when I last saw you... Beeennn sssoooo long

Atomic grew out of the beige box age. It was sought after by a group that believed that computers didn't have to look like crap and could look as cool on the outside as what you could do with them on the inside. These days you can just buy all the parts off the shelf instead of having to modify things to meet your needs. I think things really started to go downhill with the magazine going and the subsequent PC@ website hosting the main page. The whole thing really lost it's identity apart from the forums. I still check it out from time to time but not that much anymore. It always makes me happy to see it up and running :) So much of my life history is attached to this place.
