Good Laser MFP

Recommended Posts

Hi I don't print much and a friend of mine suggested getting a laser MFP rather than inkjet as the cartriges run dry on an inkjet. Is this sound advice? What is a good colour laser MFP for less than $300 that is compatible with windows 10? It must how wifi built in and an ethernet port is a bonus (but not a necessity.) I was looking at an HP M177fw. Is that a good one? Has anyone had any experience using this printer in Windows 10?

In the entry level,. they're all much the same honestly.

Expect to pay through the teeth for a COLOUR laser printer though.

If you just want a long lasting Ink Jet, most BROTHER brand printers have a n 'ink pump' built onto the cartridge, and it sucks the lines clean after each print so they dont block up.

Getting a laser MFP is actually fairly hard at the base level. It's cheaper to grab a decent laser printer (you can get colour for reasonable if you don't want it fancy) and then just add a flatbed scanner.

By getting specialised devices, you are getting devices that are good the the job, rather than a single device that does everything kinda okay.

Edit:

WHOA! Colour MFPs have come down in price since I last looked! Officeworks and techbuy both have plenty of sub-$300 devices. Colour is still expensive although you are only looking at $300-$400 for entry level now!

Have a check around and see what suits. Brother, HP are good brands that I've always found pretty reliable.

Make sure to check the price if replacement toner though! That's what can really bite you if you aren't careful. Do a comparison of how many pages you get out of the tank and how much it is (you can work out cost per page this way).

Well I have had a Samsung CLX-3185FW for some years and it has been trouble free so far. Don't print a lot with it so the toner tanks last a long time.

Been superseded of course

Not any more M_S the above HP M177fw is a colour laser MFP at $298.00 @ Officeworks.

From the HP support page they list the drivers as being win10 compatible although the driver details only say Win 8.1.

Also check the price of toner for it as toner tanks can get expensive.
