Surface3 vs Laptop

I wouldn't bother with ReadyBoost or whatever they call it now.

Maintaining a compact system would help more. Not necessarily meaning go and uninstall lots of stuff, but just look into getting rid of stuff that runs constantly or at least make it so it's not always running.

The problem these days is all sorts of things do it. Even WinZip has a background process that's there all the time.

I removed the Cloud storage from Asus its really speedy now.

 

I also grabbed a copy of hwinfo32/64 and checked to see if all processors where running and not shutting down.

Cloud storage access will be slow for sure. IMO it's just a gimmick really, little point using it with your own device. The real value of it is if you want a data repository you can access from someone else's gear.

 

Seems to be no info there about HDD or SSD. Looks like you've got 2 Gig of Ram which is a bit slim. A cheap way for some improvement would be to put 8 Gig in but first you'd need to ensure it is replacable and easy to get at.

I use onedrive so i can link my Mobile to the 2in1.

 

Just need to find the settings to turn off touchscreen, coughed and i closed 2 windows open.

Just need to find the settings to turn off touchscreen, coughed and i closed 2 windows open.

 

 

I use OneDrive for phone backups, and backup up other crap from my phone.

Anyone know if you can still get a USB to Ethernet connector of some type? As i need a direct connection to the modem router when i get internet setup so i can reconfigure the wifi settings.

 

Keep forgetting this is Android system with Windows 10 on it. Now to see if i can turn Touch Screen off.

Why can't you just use your phone to control the modem? I've done it before using phone or tablet... easy.

 

Or the laptop for that matter - it should detect and autoinstall it's wifi adaptor anyway.

 

Android system with Win10 - WTF? Convertable laptops and fully fledged Windows tablets run on x86 type CPUs. It's only the crappy phones that run on ARM/RISC processors similar to Android.

If your cpu is intel, its proper windows 10. Window 10 mobile runs on the arm cpu.

I adjusted the touchscreen so its on long delays between inputs ,seems to help a lot.

 

Almost like a laptop now ,or should i say usable 2in1.

 

Done some bank transactions on and used for a budget spreadsheet ,nice and fast now since removing all unwanted crapware and cloud stuff.

Nice and smooth now. Windows wants to do an update with only 22gb left on SSD its keep looping. So i insert a USB stick like it says and rejects it ,it needs more space to unpack.

 

ASUS really screwed up this Tablet with Win10 and such a small size SSD ,geez. Have to keep wifi turned off or it just tries to update to new version of Windows.

I would not have a laptop with such low storage, min 240gb. Yea you could install ubuntu but you would still end up filling the drive in the end anyway.

That's an extremely large update, damn. I would never have expected it.

What i have done is select metered connection that stops any large updates ,seems to be working.
