Where are they now and what are they doing?

Recommended Posts

In an attempt to bring out the lurkers, most of which used to be active members. Let's have a bit of story telling time.

In the last 10 years of your life, what's happened? You can reveal as much or as little as you like. I'd like to hear from anyone and everyone. Especially those who I used to play with here on Atomic, but we no longer do.

I'm hoping a lot of people are reading Atomic regularly but just CBF'd posting or commenting. Well, now is your chance...

Me?

Well, in the last 10 years I've remarried. Had another child. That's two kids.

One aged 11, the other aged 19 months. Big difference in age, but they're excellent siblings and my older daughter is a great help with the new addition to our family.

I've been working like a dog trying to progress my career. I've bought a new house, living the dream. My desire to work hard and earn more money has been a double edged sword.

I'm now earning more than twice as much as I was 10 years ago, however I've probably spent more time working away from home than I have been at home. That's put a huge burden on my family, particularly my wife.

So I'm currently weighing up a career change, but nothing as yet.
I'm still living in Sydney, but I have moved a few times in the last 10 years. Where we are now, we see us staying here forever. No plans to ever leave. We love it.

I like where my life is at at the moment, but I'd love it more if I had more time to spend with those around me that I care about.

Okay, your turn....GO!

Hmm, I've been in and out of relationships, my last one was 7 years.

I got told "I was fun" so "I'm not going to leave you tonight".

Felt like a bit of a possession after that, so kinda stopped trying. She never asked why.

Still miss her.

I have an IT manager job now, pay is well above what I used to get, but not 'high' by anyones standards. Time is still fairly available.

I'm well and truly a part of the car scene now. Loving every minute of it.

Eyes are still as broken as ever, finally at a point where I need an organ donor on one, so thats scary and exciting to come in the next few months.

Well that is pretty exciting. Hope you get one soon.

Always wanted to know what the world looks like through someone else's eyes.

Well, there's 6 of everything.

"sharp edges" dont exist, they're all fuzzy lines.

High Contrast ANYTHING is the devil, and shouldn't exist

Colors are soft and vibrancy is a thing of the past.

I wouldnt recommend it.

Never have there been better examples than these (I get both effects on top of each other):

Still baffles me how you're allowed behind the wheel of a car...

In all honesty, I have my Othom checking that regularly.

I've never once failed to spot a human, a hazard, or another car.

I cant read smaller street signs, but safety signs are still "perfect" because they're regulation font.

Trust me, I love my car (and not being charged with manslaughter) enough to have that checked regularly. lol

Lol. Yep. Seventy Eight. I'm still on my way to the last 15kgs I need to lose.

And yep, I'm able to do much more. I'm weight training with a PT to build my strength and muscle, learning free weights as well as the machines. Bushwalking and dance classes are also fun. I've also reversed my diabetes, and lessened the symptoms of my other autoimmune conditions. Which are mainly why I had to lose the weight in the first place. I went from a size 24 to a size 12.

It's awesome.

It's awesome.

Indeed it is! Are/have you having/had surgery to get rid of the extra skin?

Saving my dollars. Unfortunately that surgery is very expensive (I've been quoted upwards of $5k) and you don't get much back from Medicare. So, yes, but when I can afford it. :) I just have to live with it in the mean time. It's a small price to pay to pay really.

10 years... that's about how long I've been a member!

Since then pretty much everything has changed apart from my passion for tech. A few notable things:

- Started a business to sell one of my apps, and now making a healthy income from it.

- Got my Computer Engineering degree.

- Work at a great company with great people (most people know, but if you need a hint: they went public recently!)

- Got promoted!

- Made friends with some amazing people.

- Finally got off my arse and got a motorcycle license (and ride with some of those aforementioned amazing people!)

- Picked up some quadcopters to practise flying (and quickly learnt that acro is difficult!)

- Picked up a guitar to learn how to play (and still suck!)

But most of all...

- Cringed unrelentingly at my old Atomic posts :P

Dunno 'bout D, but mine is more 'comatose' than 'laid back'.

Think the entire last decade boils down to:

1. Got more cats.

2. Moved house.

(End list)

Since 2006 ...

Moved house at least two times. Been in our present spot for nearly nine yrs.

Survived long enough to have long service leave.

Became an a grade non - smoker

Gained about twelve kilos, five of which are definitely unwanted .

Same for me on all those except house moves.

And except about 8 or 9 of the 12 being not wanted.

Did some small demos and game/conversion programming stuff for long dead retro computers as well as numerous hardware upgrades and some mods. Though have barely had anything to do with old computers for a few years but still keeping up with events and contributing with tech advice, suggestions on new developments etc.

Done not really enough travel. Only big things Tasmania 5 years ago, 4 trips of ~ 800km to northern NSW and short trip to the coast maybe once or twice a year.

Had injuries and illness that have involved hospital stays, surgery, recovery periods but over it for the most part.

Lost my remaining 3 grandparents although 2 were in 2005. Also lost a cousin who was 15 months younger than me about a year and a half ago. Thanks to disfunction within the extended family such news arrives through the grapevine.

That said though, I've just developed a policy of having nothing to do with people who I don't like, who annoy me, or generally give off a negative vibe.
