Recommended Posts

ebay 20% off stores

6700k $452 +$10 for signature required on post
Asus Maximus VIII Gene Z170 $304 free post
from newegg
G.Skill DDR4-3200c14 16GB 2x8GB $132
EVGA gtx 1070 $594 <evga international warranty non reference but all cards seem to do ~2050mhz regardless of vrm it has some nice looking plates that should work well with the universal gpu block
$778.51 with $52.51 post

~$1500

i know arma will still run like crap but it will be interesting if it can keep the fps closer to 60 more of the time rather than ~30 most the time in apex

edit:

all parts were posted 19th except the mb..

ebay store said it had 10 in stock at time of purchase now lists 8 but i received this email few days back

Hi,

Good day, hope this email finds you well.
We're sorry to inform you that we're out of stock for this item at the moment, and do not have goods to fulfill your order. My colleagues are in touch with supplier, and we will be in touch shortly with an update.

Thank you for your understanding.

Nice new toys coming your way! Wish I had a universal gpu block. I have the setup for it too and the cards Ive run with water had a custom specific block.... but might look into one sometime. EVGA has amazing support, I fried a Titan once and they took it back and sent me a replacement.

Now what do you do with your current system as its not that bad at all :)

posted a price check on ocau for old parts no replies but looking at the for sale section i got a rough idea

will probably keep the 3770k\gene\7970 for sisters photoshop pc to replace her q9450 and sell the 290\2600k\p67\ram to nuke for ~$400

ok so i will be keeping at least one of these for a family member and probably selling the other maybe to a friend

2600k 4.3ghz 1.28v 24\7 - 4.9ghz 1.4v prime stable with pll over v needed to post past 4.4ghz - 5.1ghz 1.52v kinda benchmark stable

3770k delided recently does 4.5ghz 1.38v ~60c some chips were knocked of the back in the process disabling its igp and it has some chips around the edges of the pcb from the vise
its never been happy with ram over 1.55v for some reason some say this may be due to bent mb pins on the z77 but i cant see any
4.7ghz ran 3dmark at 1.425v very unstable
4.8ghz wouldnt boot at 1.5v

ga p67 ud3 b3
asus z77 gene

geil 2x2g 1600 8-8-8 1.35v @ 2133 7-10-8-31-t1 tRFC 86 1.56v <only works in the p67 wont post in z77
samsung oem 2x4g kit 1600c11 @ 2133 9-10-10-1T tRFC 96 1.54v double sided dims

asus 7970 3g dc2t stock 1000mhz but runs 1100mhz at its default v which is lower than most reference 7970 making it very efficient however it doesnt scale with with increased v or water

xfx r9 290 dd 4g does 1200mhz stable on water but it will be on air and its stock hsf has a crap vrm hs than runs over 100c

all parts still work fine other than what was mentioned with no sine of degradation they still oc as good as they did when new

thanks for your time

edit i will probably leave the 3770k in the z77 gene as it has liquid metal tim under the ihs that would be better not disturbed

Neat (tho' shitty about the stock level BS).

I wanted to get some stuff in June while in the US but almost all the things I wanted were cheaper in Australia : \

just found this guide to setting ram timings which should come in handy

http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=148427

unfortunately they seem to be mostly for d-die and e-die samsung ic where as my kit should be b-die so i may still need to experiment a bit

i do love that i have been able to keep using this mcw60 universal block since the x1900xtx days

yeah i do hope i get another email soon to say there suppler has stock and that there not just pissing around as the 20% discount combined with free post to my rural location removes there profit margin

edit another link i will be going through later for asus mb related info on overclocking

http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=142991

edit: just thinking i may leave the gpu on air for a while see if i can run some tests comparing game performance with 3770k vs 6700k

trouble is i dont have a good spare hsf for the 3770k may be able to slap the old water loop back on it though

Id be interested in seeing the 3770 vs 6700 in tests with the new card for sure. I was planning on waiting for zen and see if it is any better than the 3770.

seems i ordered the gtx1070 and got the gtx1070 sc :)

ran 3dmark the cards fans didnt even start gpu topped out at 61c running

clocks were 1866-1950 with the card at stock

well the mem just ran 3dmark at +898 with some minor artifacts
100% fan speed went up to ~4000rpm then dropped back to ~3000rpm temps didnt go over 42c
with power tune at 112%
http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9590923

+100 boost
http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9590983
with +135 boost it was running ~2050-2130 but it was getting some black tearing artifacts and the score was lower
still havent looked at tweaking the v

thatl do for now +120 boost
16002
seems msi afterburner managed a more stable boost clock than evga precision x oc at ~2050-2114 powertune\v maxed 4800mem
maxing the v didnt seem to make much difference maybe it stayed at 1050mv longer instead of just spiking up to it

nice little improvement over the first test with the gpu at stock clocks
13952

heaven seems stable with +100 boost ~2000-2050mhz and +750mem

may need to drop it a little more

seems ok with the fan curve se to keep it under 55c

crashed fairly quick once the gpu hit 75c at the default fan setting

Curious. If you run 112% and vcore all the way up, do you see the core drop when OC due to the card hitting the powerlimit? Are you seeing it hover around 108+?

At stock, with 112% what does your core run at when gaming.

heaven stock with tweaked fan

1974 max boost while card was still cold after it had settled at 55c1885-1949 system power use 225-240w

gpu-z showing performance limit kicking in frequently due to power sitting at ~95%

gpu is at 1v

once the powertune is maxed the cards v goes up automatically to 1024-1060mv now the card is largely limited by v and power going by gpu-z sitting around 105%

the v slider doesnt seem to work

clocks stabilize at 1936-1974 with the gpu at 60c

power use at the wall is ~240-260w

this could change a lot from one game\benchmark to the next

my card has a bit of coil wine especially once overclocked in high fps benchmarks

its not very noticeable at ~60fps

Woah, really? Are GPU's honestly getting that sensitive to heat as the die size drops?

I have an HD7950 (or is it a HD9750.... either way...) I like to keep the fan locked at 20% because its lost its bearings and makes a hell of a racket if I let it go above.

It often hits 90*C+

Its set for 120%V, and maxed out both the Radeon clock sliders (GPU and Memory).

Never artifacted. and the heatsink is held on by a single central ziptie....

yeah my 7970 didnt care about temp at all ether but then it didnt scale to well with extra v it just topped out at ~1100 with low v and ~1175 with high v

the 290 liked being on water but it was getting way to hot on air when i tried to run 1200mhz

be interesting to see if others find there newer nvidia\amd cards to be so sensitive to temperature or if its just this one

this gpu only has 4+1 phases with no temperature probe so hopefully there not getting to hot like some older nvidia reference cards that burnt up

Heh. Power phase cooling is often overlooked isn't it.

I have a DFI LanpartyJr X58-T3H going strong, that ran my 920 at 4GHZ all day.

I think I'm the only one who has one that didn't totally fry its PWM's.

I got another 5 turns of the nuts, on the rear of the heatsink, before the thermal pads actually bottomed out.

Shit was loose! Making contact, but not enough.

These days, whenever I see PWMs or... well..... any exposed chip...... it gets the finger test. If its hot to touch, it gets a stick-on Ramsink.

Overkill? Probably. But the 25c or so per chip it costs me, is outweighed by a stable system and the 'fun' of modding.

My Modem stopped dropping wifi once I heatsinked its chip. It was literally too hot to touch, even for a second.

and my cars audio amplifier, once I replaced the cheap paste with Gelid GC EXTREME, the case got MUCH hotter (good), and the amp stopped cutting out when DB testing ;)

I'm also interested in this. I have a 3570K in my old gaming rig and have considered upgrading, but aren't really sure if there is any point yet...

trying to work out what games to test and how best to go about it

this is fallout 4 with data captured by msi afterburner

unfortunately it doesn't seem to be able to read fps in a few games like arma3 or coh2

Untitled_zpswbc98i2u.jpg

got a bit of data gathered now ready for the 6700k

stock for the ram is 1600c11

gpu is at +75boost +750mem +112 power 100% fan except for a few noted tests in r6

fallout4%203770k_zpshxxuio0f.png

r6 your typical gpu heavy game

if there is any of the data your interested in from the first fallout image power\usage the data is all there so i can graph it if you wish

So those are tests with the new GPU and old CPU right?

yep still waiting on new mb just getting that data ready and graphed it to make sure it all looks accurate

there was two tests i had to rerun

and just to be sure we had a totally gpu bottlnecked test i ran r6 at 2560 2xaa

cpu\ram stock vs oc is the same to under 0.5fps difference margin of error

75av

61min

gave up on the coh2 benchmark

unfortunately its scores are just to random one test would be 80fps the next would be 95fps

maybe i will still use it for a load time comparison as the only real difference between my system and my friends is mostly the level of the cpu\ram oc and with that i load in a fair bit quicker

A few games might be crysis or metro. I think Division has a built-in bench too.

I'm a bit jealous of your gpu heatsink... kinda wish I spent a bit more but was already not wanting to spend too much since was targeting the new mid range. Just can't believe how well it cools!

do have metro installed it was running ~200fps

crysis isnt installed but guess i could take a look at it again although i found its performance to be a bit weird when it comes to multithreading

edit what do you know crysis3 is installed but im finding it hard to get accurate data since it can only load from checkpoints and there is no benchmark

it does seem to benefit less from ram than the other games

ran firestrike again with the cpu at 4.7ghz 2400c10 timespy crashed though so i dropped the cpu back to stable clocks 4.5ghz 2133c9 for it

16436 Performance

20402 3dm11
mb has been siting at
Delivery Depot SHEPPARTON Scan Date & Time 01/08/2016 08:20
contacted startrack tracking and there not sure why so they passed it onto investigation
since im leaving on holidays tuesday morning its looking unlikely that i will be here to receive it
apparently i can chose to go for a 2 hour drive to collect it monday...

Seems like decent results.

My best score on Firestrike Performance is around 12,000. 3570K @ 4500Ghz and GTX 980.

Shame about the motherboard. I hate it when shiny stuff i buy gets delayed in the post. Can it sit at the postoffice while you're on holiday? Packages are returned after 14 days if not picked up here at least.
