Nokia, MAKING A COMEBACK!

Recommended Posts

http://company.nokia.com/en/our-businesses/nokia-technologies/hello-again

Yep, you read right.

The branding deal with Microsoft is about to end......

This most likely means Android and Nokia hardware once again.

Come on Android\Blackberry style E72 replacement.

Remember the E72?

If there is finally something to rival my old favorite in the future, I think I'm going to literally cry in joy.

I'm sure their first few will be the usual "Flat piece of glass, and boring plastic\metal" like every other fucking phone on the market; but eventually, hopefully, their own design starts to show through again :)

Maybe someone 'new' (old) to actually challenge the brand name of "Apple".

Sure the current Tweenagers probably wont know them, but the 2000~2010 graduating year people (I fall into that) will remember them as the best.

N93?

The dedicated Camera phone? (literally)

Or the N95? The 'iPod' for the non-ipod generation?

Fuck I hope they still have some of their design left in them.....

Technology is meant to excite, and its meant to excite on multiple levels.

Telling me about CPU's and RAM excites the inner geek, sure, but to the 'outside world' Showing off my Blackberry Passport started countless discussions.

I really hope nokia doesnt end up entirely in the flat glass panel crowd.

One rumored device:

As I expected, but they have to start somewhere.

Sorry, the owner is Foxconn. I don't expect much from them except low end phones.

I've owned 3 Nokia's including my current Lumia 830.

Low end? Thats fine.

Low end have done some amazing things.

Look at the Oppo F1.

The market is flooded with low end phones from China especially, they have to make a big effort to be different.

How about a clamshell with decent screen size and phone pad half that doubles as a decent game controller?

True, but they are the primary.

Whoever makes the mainboard I usually am happy to credit to the 'key' player.

Aw man, been waiting for this for ages. Would love to read/see more. Not that I'm really going to go this way myself, but I really want to see what's going to happen :-)

My predictions are:

-Android - But heavily "Symbian" skinned. I'm talking always-on-screen notifications (emails, missed calls, missed txts, etc). Imagine Android, if it behaved a little like Windows10phone.

-A Focus on "tough" and "battery" at the expense of a LITTLE bulk; considering how many people put a case on their phone, and complain about battery life, I think this will be received well.

-Hopefully some slightly more interesting form factors than "Flat, and thin, metal back, glass front". Even if they make some 'wedge' shapes, a slider, a qwerty phone, one with external music\camera controls SOMETHING. I just pray they didn't lose their 'zing'.

A lot of symbian features ended up in windows mobile/phone and android adopted a lot too.

Rumours are there's 5.2" and 5.5" smartphone being planned, no mention of special keyboards or stuff like that.

Honestly? even more creative side buttons, slide locks, and touch sensors would do me fine.

Or a rear E-ink display.....

There's a pic showing Nova Launcher... it must be just using a boring reference Android install.

I've got Nova on my phone... in order to override that stupid Emotion UI that Huawei insist on using.

Foxconn are banking on the Nokia name, not what made it famous. One looks like a Lumia and other a Sony.

Hmm...

I see Nokia doing what they've always done.

Walked that fringe of "Enough grunt" without aiming for flagship.

They've done it many times before.

While you're right, the specs don't look "That Exciting", it might allow them to price well below the market for "New brand name phone" and snap up sales (lets face it, most users don't know Snapdragon from an Exynos).

I'd wager that got them most of the Lumia sales too. "New smart phone? Lots of storage? $199?! I'm in!" for people who weren't thinking if they needed the ecosystem.

Without tooting my own horn, I've gotten pretty good at figuring a companies lateral sales angles; and I think they're going to nail this one.....

It still looks like my lumia (except for the camera bit) which I don't mind.

Non-removable battery ... damn. And no MicroSD!

Maybe an issue 5 years ago.

For me, non-removable battery is an issue. Always will be.
